The Online Literary Magazine of Cerritos College |
|
| Cerritos College sees itself as
"the most technologically advanced community college in the state." It
takes pride in providing easy information access and extensive computer skills
development. But the variety of technological avenues that are now open to us
invites us also to undertake imaginative, creative journeys. These new paths should be
used to relay our understandings of our relationships with ourselves, with one another,
and with the world. Moreover, we should expect that the traffic of words still
presupposes a critical approach towards language. We must evaluate how we use and
receive words. We must aim for writing that is well-crafted, precisely observed, and
able to speak across experiences and points of view. Finally, we must produce
writing that captures the moment and trusts the moment to speak for itself. "Every morning brings us the news of the globe, and yet we are poor in noteworthy stories. This is because no event any longer comes to us without already being shot through with explanation. In other words, by now almost nothing that happens benefits storytelling; almost everything benefits information." "The Storyteller," Illuminations, Walter Benjamin |
