                 Describe your own observations regarding the present benefits and/or disadvantages of the women's fight for equality.

Essay 2: Read Simone de Beauvoir's "Woman as Other."

                Write a three-page minimum essay

                 Summarize in your own words the main ideas of "Woman as Other."  Use at least two quotations to support and illustrate your discussion.

Essay 3: Analyze and interpret "Keeper of the Lighthouse," by Alejandrino G. Hufana and "What Do Women Want," by Kim Addonizio.

               Write a five-page minimum essay.  Use at least two quotes from each poem.

               Explore what the two poems are saying about the place of women in society.

Essay 4: Analyze and interpret Ang Lee's Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon.

               Write a five-page minimum essay.  Use at least one quote from each critical essay or review of the film.  Use quotes that deal with descriptions of Li Mu Bai, Shu Lien, Jen, and Dark Cloud.

               Discuss the contrasts the film makes between the relationship of Li Mu Bai and Shu Lien and the relationship of Jen and Dark Cloud.  Also, discuss what the film suggests about the role of emotions in people's lives.

Essay 5: Analyze and interpret Lakambini Sitoy's "Weight."

               Write a five-page minimum essay.  Use at least three quotes from the story.  Provide a work-cited page

                Describe the evolving relationship between Ami and Jayme, and discuss how the lives they lead in the city affect the choices they make.
