Course Description and
Objectives:
Five hours a week plus one hour in the language laboratory per
week(see required). This course provides extensive practice in
oral and written expression and a thorough review of gramatical
concepts. It also introduces the student to the more formal
aspects of literary analysis and cultural appreciation through a
selection of short stories and essays written in Spanish. Class
is conducted in Spanish.
Students taken Spanish 3 must have completed Elementary
Spanish at Cerritos College or equivalent approved courses from
other institutions.
The objectives of the course are to:
- demonstrate acquisition of intermediate level Spanish
vocabulary.
- demonstrate an understanding of, and the ability to
correctly use intermediate level Spanish grammatical
structures.
- review grammar structures from Elementary Spanish.
-recognize and apply the rules of accentuation.
- apply grammar rules in written compositions.
- read and discuss reading assignments in Spanish (short
stories and essays).
- distinguish errors is Spanish from English usage.
- demonstrate a general knowledge of culture, literature of
Spanish-speaking societies, within and without the US
Required:
- Spanish 2 or equivalent with a grade of Credit or
"C" or higher

- Lab Manual: Zayas-Bazan, Conexiones
- Laboratory: l 5 hours required. Failure to complete hours
will result in an incomplete.
- Students are responsible for all material presented in
class, including announcements about changes in course
procedures.
- Ability to speak Spanish.
Optional:
- Dictionaries: Spanish-English/English-Spanish and Spanish
to Spanish.
- Barron's 501 Verbs.
- Computer usage knowledge is optional but recommended.
Attendance:
- You are responsible for all material presented in class,
including announcements about course procedures. Exams,
quizzes, language practice and homework often include
questions on material presented only in class, so
performance on these indirectly reflects attendance.
- Attendance represents 10% of your class grade.
Missing one class means 2% of the grade, twice means 5%
of the grade and three times means 10% of the grade.
- Students will be dropped from the class after the third
unexcused absence. In addition please refer to the
Cerritos
College Catalog for excessive absences policy.
Note: Cellular phone calls or beep sounds are
disrupting and therefore not allowed in class. Please be
courteous to the classroom environment an turn sound devices off.
