Dr. Sandra Salazar
Trustee Area 6

Sandra Salazar

A doctor who comes from humble beginnings, Sandra’s story is an example of what can be achieved through hard work and education. The daughter of a gardener and a domestic worker, Sandra Salazar was raised in a working-class family that instilled in her a commitment to faith, family, and community at an early age. After graduating through the public school system, Salazar became the first in her family to attend college. She graduated from Wellesley College in Massachusetts with a Bachelor of Arts degree and after completing a year-long research fellowship at the Mayo School of Health Sciences in Minnesota, went on to attend Saint Louis University of Medicine where she received a Doctorate in Medicine. She completed her medical training in Los Angeles where she currently works as a family physician.

Dr. Salazar is an active and dedicated member of her community.  Her record of  public service includes serving on the medical advisory board of the California Community Foundation, volunteering with various community based organizations while also  being a member of the local Kiwanis and the Norwalk Community Coalition. In 2011, Senate President Pro Tem Darrell Steinberg appointed Dr. Salazar to the  State Bar Committee of Bar Examiners.

Dr. Sandra Salazar was elected to represent Trustee Area 6 of the Board of Trustees and was sworn in on December 12, 2012. She was re-elected in 2020.
