Career Planning Classes

Career and Guidance
Class hours: 2 hours per week (9 weeks) 1 unit
Prerequisite: none
This course is designed to help students approach career
decisions in a systematic way.
A variety of techniques are used to
assess individual characteristics and relate these to occupational
information. At times, sections may be offered which emphasize
particular types of situations such as
a person making initial
career decisions, mid-life career changes, and minority programs.

Self Awareness Towards Educational Readiness
Class hours: 6 lecture/10 lab (Summer Only) 2 units
Prerequisite: none
This course is designed to aid students in identifying and
evaluating individual, educational, and vocational
ability.
Self-awareness techniques will be used to enhance this assessment
process. This class is designed
primarily for the EOPS summer
student, but is open to all interested students. Field work
experience will assist
students in developing skills that enhance
their work performance. (Ten hours field work for those employed as
work study or equivalent volunteer experience as approved by
instructor.) This course may be taken for a
maximum of 4 units.

Orientation for the Student with Disabilities
Class hours: 2 hours per week (9 weeks) 1 unit
Prerequisite: none
This course is designed to orient the disabled student to a
various programs and services offered by Cerritos
College. An IEP/learning contract will be developed for each student who enrolls
in this course. Emphasis is on
assisting the disabled student
to successfully integrate into all aspects of the college. To
register obtain a class
availability card from Disabled Students
Program Services (DSPS) in the Santa Barbara Building between the
hours
of 8:00 am and 4:00 pm during the first week of class.

Counselor Aid in the Community College
Class hours: 2 lecture 2 units
Prerequisite: none
This course is designed to familiarize students with the
functions and training in the techniques of the student
counselor
aid in a community college setting.

Success in College and Career
Class hours: 3 lecture, 9 weeks, 3 units
Prerequisite: none
Corequisite: none

This course will provide students with knowledge, information,
and skills to better understand themselves as members
of the working
world. It will assist them in establishing life, career, educational
and personal goals and develop plans
and strategies to successfully
meet those goals.

Job Search Strategies
Class hours: 2 lecture/1 lab, 9 Weeks, 1 unit
Prerequisite: none
Transfer Credit: CSU
Recommendation: Completion or near completion of a degree or
certificate program or be actively seeking
new employment.
This is an open entry/exit, self-paced course designed to prepare
students to manage their transition from college-to-work
and/or
work-to-college situations. Students will learn the fundamentals
of the job search process. Students will learn to
develop job
search strategies, prepare print and electronic resumes and improve
their interview skills. This course is offered
on a credit/no
credit basis only. this course my be taken for a maximum of 2
units. (Formerly CG 21).
