Requisite Rosters

Q. What is the purpose of the Requisite Roster?

A.  Since Cerritos College does not currently check prerequisites prior to student enrollment, Requisite Rosters are meant to provide an instructor, at the first class meeting, with relevant assessment levels and prior course grades of students enrolled in (or on the waiting list for) a course.   Requisite Rosters include each student’s name and student number, all relevant assessment clearance levels and the grade and term taken of any requisite course.  If assessment or grade information is unknown the student’s current enrollment status will be shown. 

Q.  Should I have a requisite roster for all of my classes?

A.  Not necessarily.  Only classes with approved pre or co-requisites (see the official college catalog) should get a requisite roster.  

Q.  What should I do if I think my class should have a Requisite Roster and I didn’t receive one?

A.  Check with your division office staff.  Information Technology usually prints Requisite Rosters the weekend before a class begins, however, each division is responsible for distributing Requisite Rosters to their faculty.  Division staff will contact Information Technology or academic affairs if needed.

Q.  Is student course work from other institutions included on the Requisite Roster?

A.  No.  Only course work from Cerritos College is on the Requisite Roster.  If a student has completed a prerequisite course at another institution, they can see a counselor who will evaluate the information and recommend the appropriate clearance level.

Q.  How do I interpret the assessment information on the Requisite Roster?

A.  See the Assessment Conversion Table (below).  Locate the assessment instrument on the right hand column.  Course placements for that level are shown in the leftmost column.

Q.  What if a student has more than one clearance level that applies to this course?

A.  Students are assessed at various times.  Use the highest level to determine the course clearance.

Q.  What if a student’s assessment level is below this course but the Requisite Roster shows the student has completed the prerequisite course?

A.  Course information shows the term and year that it was taken.  The assessment levels do not show the date that the assessment was made.  Use the higher course level.

Q. Why is some of the course information shown with the old course numbers?

A.  The student’s academic history is recorded using the course name and number at the times it was taken.  For articulation purposes it must match what was in the official college catalog for that academic year.

Q.  What if the requisite information included on a Requisite Roster does not match what is in the catalog?

A.   Contact your division dean or department chair.  Each division is responsible for keeping requisite information current.  Changes are entered by staff in academic affairs.
