College Celebrates Lunar New Year

Cerritos College welcomed the Year of the Pig with a festive Chinese Lunar New Year Celebration on February 5. Students, staff, and community members enjoyed dumpling making, paper lantern craft, traditional Chinese music and dance performances, and dazzling lion dance performance.

Artist Fong Tran Inspires Students with Words of Wisdom

Vietnamese-American spoken word artist Fong Tran shared his personal experience of overcoming stereotypes, biases, and stigma as a first-generation Vietnamese American on February 7. He also addressed the stigma of being a model minority and constructs of masculinity for men of color.

Window Dressing: Coffin by Luciana Abait Opening Reception Tonight

Window Dressing: Coffin by Luciana Abait opens today, Monday, February 11, with an opening reception tonight from 5-7 p.m. The work stems from the demise of retail stores due to global online sales and explores the impact this has had on the urban environment, the workforce, and social interactions. Window Dressing, an annual cycle of short-term installations in the window vitrine on the exterior of the Fine Arts Building, runs for two weeks only.

The Cerritos College Board of Trustees recognized retiree Carol Reed for her many years of service to the College at the February 6 board meeting. Carol Reed began her employment in December 1997 as the Dispensary Lab Tech Assistant. The Outstanding Classified/Confidential Employee Selection Committee named Martha Ruiz as the recipient of the Outstanding Classified/Confidential Employee of the Month Award for December 2018. Martha began her career at Cerritos College in 2008 as short term temporary employee in Community Education, and was hired as a full-time classified employee in 2013...
