Campus Police Sergeant Angel Castillo Receives Compassion Award
Campus Police Sergeant Angel Castillo was honored with a Compassion Award at the 24th Annual Stepping In Conference. Hosted by the Los Angeles County Department of Mental Health and College Hospitals, the conference was held at the Doubletree Hotel in Norwalk with more than 500 people in attendance. Inaugural Daisy Award Honors Outstanding Nursing Students
Cerritos College Nursing Department recognized five students who received the inaugural Daisy Award. The Department established the Daisy Award for the Extraordinary Nursing Student program as an ongoing reminder that nursing is not only about skills and technology but also about human relationships, this program recognizes students for compassionate care during clinical rotations. Falcons in Flight | First-Gen Student Jimena Morales-Dominguez Pursues Career to Help Others
Jimena Morales-Dominguez is a first-generation college student who grew up in Huntington Park. Right after she graduated from high school, she moved to attend Cerritos College. “That was the first choice in my life that I made for myself,” Jimena said. Asian, Pacific Islander, Desi American Luncheon
Celebrating Asian, Pacific Islander, Desi America Heritage Month, Human Resources hosted an APIDA luncheon on May 3. The event featured keynote speaker Frank Quiambao, founding director of the National Education Safety and Security. Quiambao shared his story growing up in a Filipino American household and how he started as a school counselor to serve at the national level as a security executive for the Department of Homeland Security as a risk assessment specialist. The event also featured various cultural dance performances by Ling’s Dance Academy and Asian cuisine by the Culinary Arts Program.
Umoja Success Program Celebrates the Class of 2023
The Umoja Success Program held its annual Rites of Passage ceremony on May 2. The Rites of Passage is a tradition that can be traced back to Africa. The ceremony recognized where our students have come from and where they are going—the principle of Sankofa. Congratulations to the Umoja Class of 2023!
College to Host 65th Annual Commencement Ceremony on May 19
Cerritos College will hold its 65th annual commencement ceremony to honor its graduating students on Friday, May 19 at 5:30 p.m. in Falcon Stadium. The College will present associate degrees and skills certificates to students who completed their course of study during the 2022-2023 academic year. Students will transition to some of the nation’s top colleges and universities, including UCLA, UC Berkeley, UC Santa Barbara, California State Universities Dominguez Hills, Northridge, Los Angeles, Long Beach, and Fullerton, among others... Psychology Students Present at Research Convention
Seven students attended the Western Psychological Association (WPA) Conference in April. Psychology students Matt Picazzo, Bea Roxas, Sarena Eworonsky, and Jaqueline Piza presented their novel research at the conference. Fourteen Real Estate Students Receive Real Estate Endowment Fund Scholarships
From fall 2022 to spring 2023, the Real Estate Endowment Fund has provided $13,200 in scholarships to Cerritos College students majoring in real estate. 14 students have benefited from this fund during the 2022-2023 school year. The Real Estate Endowment Fund scholarships become available at the beginning of each fall semester. Real Estate Professor Mary Ellen Brady encourages students to apply, which results in Cerritos College students being awarded more scholarships than any other community college in the state. Students can apply at the campus Financial Aid office.

The request for qualifications (RFQ) solicitation is an opportunity to create a pool of qualified artists to provide the design, creation, and installation of a prominent public art project on the exterior façade of the new Performing Arts Center.
