College's Efforts to Combat Student Homelessness Get More Media Attention
As a result of Cerritos College's extensive lobbying and outreach efforts, the College's endeavors to tackle student housing insecurity were featured in the Los Angeles Times, and Dr. Jose Fierro's commentary "California’s community colleges are more than ready for affordable student housing" was featured in EdSource.
College Tour Filming on Campus a Success
The Amazon Prime series The College Tours Cerritos College edition was filmed on campus last week featuring our own Falcon stars Kobe, Brittany, Yolanda, Brooke, David, Emely, Kat, Riley, Taima, and Janvi. The show host Alex Boylan made a special guest appearance in Dr. Fierro's special President's Hour to greet students. Check out the College's instagram for more footage of the filming. Lavender Graduation Celebrates the Class of 2023
The second annual Lavender Graduation honored LGBTQ+ graduates from the 2022-2023 academic school year on May 9. College officials and a student speaker commended the academic accomplishments of LGBTQ+ graduates. Congratulations lavender grads, we are proud of you!
Black Graduation Celebrates the Class of 2023
The second annual Black Graduation celebrated 2022-2023 scholars on May 8 with live African drummers, keynote speaker Corey James, student speaker ASCC Senator Caleb Dunomes, and a presentation of Kente stoles to the graduates by Board of Trustee Member Dawn Green. The ceremony concluded with a feast provided by Hambones Bar & Grill. “With your future ahead of you and the ancestors beside you, there is nothing you can’t do,” said Counseling Chair Chelena Fisher, Ed.D. Congratulations Class of 2023!
Retiree Dr. Christine Lopez Recognized

Outgoing Student Trustee Hector Ledesma Honored - Cerritos College
The Cerritos College Board of Trustees presented outgoing student trustee Hector Ledesma with a certificate honoring his outstanding service to the board and on behalf of students. Hector is transferring to Cal Poly Humboldt to earn a bachelor’s degree in environmental engineering with the goal to restore destroyed ecosystems and develop solutions to environmental issues as an environmental engineer. Thank you for your service, Hector, and best of luck in your new endeavors!

The 65th Annual Commencement Ceremony on May 19
Cerritos College will hold its 65th annual commencement ceremony to honor its graduating students on Friday, May 19 at 5:30 p.m. in Falcon Stadium.
