College ranks 19th among nation’s top 100 schools for Hispanics
Cerritos College is ranked 19th with the number of associate degrees awarded to Hispanic students in the United States, according to the Hispanic Outlook on Education magazine. This is a substantial leap from 28th place in 2022. Hispanic Outlook magazine recognized the College as one of the leading institutions for Hispanics in the U.S. in its Top 100 Colleges and Universities for Hispanics issue, published on October 16... Convocation inspires students for success
Cerritos College hosted the 2023-24 Student Convocation on October 18. President Dr. Jose Fierro spoke to nearly 100 students in attendance about the college's goal of graduating 50% of its students within five years and the importance of familiarizing themselves with the Learning and Career Pathways and having a comprehensive educational plan for each student to complete their Cerritos education faster to be successful in whatever they choose next.
Homecoming unites the campus community
Hundreds of students, alums, families, and friends gathered at Homecoming on October 21. ASCC, the Cerritos College Foundation, and the athletics hosted a pre-game tailgate with club booths, food, inflatable games, an obstacle course, and a DJ. One hundred meals and football game tickets were given away. Although the Falcons did not get the win against Citrus Owls, all in attendance enjoyed the annual celebration of reunions.
Cerritos College Psi Beta chapter honored at the board meeting
The Cerritos College Board of Trustees recognized the Psi Beta Honor Society for winning the Chapter Excellence Award for 2022-23 on October 18. The award recognizes Psi Beta chapters that meet or exceed a minimum number of activities that engage student members in service, research, leadership, and scholarship. Few Psi Beta chapters achieve this level of excellence. Read the August article about Psi Beta's award
Retiree Vicky Curry recognized
The Cerritos College Board of Trustees recognized retiree Vicky Curry, administrative secretary I (Continuing Education), for her many years of service to the College on October 18. Graciela Vasquez shared faculty and colleagues' warm comments about Vicky's outstanding services to the students and the campus community. Thank you for your service and best wishes in your retirement!
Nayeli Duenas named Employee of the Month of September 2023
The Outstanding Classified/Confidential Employee Selection Committee named Nayeli Duenas as the recipient of the Outstanding Classified/Confidential Employee of the Month Award for September 2023. Nayeli began her career at Cerritos College in 2015. She is a significant contributor to student success at Cerritos College, going above and beyond to serve our students daily in her role in the Counseling Department...
