COMPOSITES

"Viable Processes for Commercial
Applications"
December 2, 1994, 9:00 am - 4:30 pm
If you're involved with composites, or need to be,
this seminar will be invaluable to you!
LEARN PRACTICAL COMPOSITE:
- Applications
- Materials
- Processes
- Equipment
Table Wrap Process - Wayne Hogarth, Pres., Lynco
Grinding
Lynco is a major manufacturer and supplier of tapered
mandrels (tooling) for use in manufacturing ski poles,
golf clubs, fishing rods, and medical implants. Mr.
Hogarth will discuss the table wrap process as it relates
to these applications.
Reusable Vacuum Bagging Systems - Cosby Newsom,
Pres., Bondline Products
Reusable Vacuum Bagging Systems (RVBS), and dedicated
Benchtop Autoclaves Incorporating RVBS. Mr. Newsom will
demonstrate various types of RVBS as well as a working
model of a Benchtop Autoclave.
Thermoforming of Thermoplastics - Thomas W. Smith,
Vice Pres., BMC
Research, development, and manufacture of
thermoplastic composite sheet materials and components
for medical podiatry and athletic/recreation will be
discussed. Actual manufacturing demonstrations of these
products will be presented.
Automated Filament Winding - Dr. Charles E. Kaempen,
Dir., KCL Projects, Ltd.
Dr. Kaempen is an internationally recognized inventor
and scientist who, since 1964, has been responsible for
pioneering the application of advanced composite
materials to commercial uses in the international
industrial marketplace. This presentation will cover
viable filament winding processing.
Vacuum Press Molding - Jon Jacobs, Pres., American
Board Co., Inc.
Snow boards are part of an exploding growth industry
in the recreational field utilizing composites. American
Board Co. has grown from a small home business to
manufacturing over 800 boards the first year. Projections
are to produce 2,000 boards next year through the vacuum
press molding process.
RTM Dispensing Systems - Gary Smith, Pres.; Lynn
Sours, Gen. Mgr., GS Mfg.
For twenty years, GS has supplied the FRP fabricator
with chopper guns, gel coaters, wet-out systems, foam
dispensing units, RTM systems, putty and adhesive
pumping/dispensing machines. They now offer
variable-ratio proportioners for many epoxy applications.
A demonstration of RTM processing will be held and
equipment displayed.
Thermoplastic Composites/Commingled Yarns/Bicycles
- Steve Olson, Composites Proj. Mgr., GT Bicycles, Inc.
Mr. Olson will discuss commingled yarn thermoplastic
composites, their processing and various applications as
applied to bicycles, tennis racquets, medical components,
etc., utilized in the recreational industry.
