About Dance

Cerritos College offers a full dance program with studies in introduction to dance, modern, ballet, commercial, and world dance as well as courses in dance appreciation, history, composition, technology, partnering and performance. The varied selection of classes promotes the appreciation of dance technique and performance. The enjoyment and knowledge of dance provides a means for developing body skills and creative expression.

An Associate of Arts Degree with a major in Dance is conferred when a student successfully completes the dance program of study and performance in conjunction with the fulfillment of their general education requirements. Additionally, students may earn the Dance Foundations Certificate along with stackable certificates in Commercial Dance (CTE Certificate) and Dance Teaching. Each academic year, there are two dance concerts in the theatre and two in-studio presentations.

The Repertory Dance Ensemble offers opportunities for additional performance experience. Participation in the American College Dance Festival highlights the department's advanced students in adjudicated dance works at regional conferences throughout the United States. Cerritos College was selected for the National American College Dance Festival in 2008 and 2010, performing at the Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in Washington D.C.
