For use with the map in your kit

These questions are a practice set to be used with the map that comes with your rock and mineral kit.  These are the types of questions that you will be working with in lab.

1.    What is the latitude and longitude of the northeast corner of this map?

34O 7' 30" N latitude and 118O 22' 30'' W longitude

2.    What is the latitude and longitude of the southwest corner of this map?

34O N latitude and 118O 30' W longitude

3.    What is the latitude and longitude of the middle of the map?

Note that this is a 7' 30" quadrangle.  That means that the latitude varies by 7' 30" and the longitude varies by 7' 30".  To calculate the latitude and longitude of the center of the map, add 1/2 of 7' 30", or 2' 45", to the latitude and longitude of the southeast corner of the map.
