Homebody

Although I seldom get the chance these days, I am the type of person who likes to hang out at home, hence the title "Homebody" for a group of SX-70 Polaroids made at five former homes. I switched to digital cameras in my current residence. Many years ago, while reading the poet William Carlos Williams, I realized I was essentially using photography as a celebration of light and praise of shadows; about being in the moment and becoming aware of the missed details lost in the rush of life. These images are not merely decorative, but visual metaphors for quiet. I did this piece in the most introverted phase of my life, and the solitude that I experienced at that time was a prerequeisite for self-healing and transformation - for seeing the world with fresh eyes. On the negative side, isolation can be, and at times was an escape from confronting life's sufferings. I offer these images as a peace offering, engaged with the busy world.
