Please hand in this sheet together with your proof sheets and portfolio. Include an artist statement. as well as a CD with digital reproductions of all the work included in the portfolio, (as well as your artist statement).

Assignment Description:
This assignment will unfold in three phases.
1. Discuss your ideas with the instructor. Hand in a written proposal describing your project. (Note: If you change your project you must re-write the proposal.)
2. Review your proof sheets and negatives in regular individual meetings with the teacher.
3. Hand in six or more prints that comprise the beginning of a series.

Assignment Objective:
The teacher's primary goal is to get each student to the point where they are self-motivated artists. This project is an introduction to that freedom and responsibility. We will endeavor to begin a series. Both subject matter and formal approach should demonstrate a conscious continuity. In other words, they should fit together. Do not hand in unrelated pictures.

Suggestions:
Explore any of the techniques or themes thus far examined in this class. Make a decision regarding which discourse of photography has the greatest gravitational pull for you at this time. Focus on that without wavering, and within that endeavor discover your own unique approach.

Evaluation Criteria:
Craftsmanship - Sharpness
Exposure (full shadow and highlight detail)
Contrast
Value (appropriate lightness / darkness)
Needs dodging and/or burning
Cleanness (no dust, water spots, scratches)
Print damage

Aesthetic / Conceptual refinement (accomplishes assignment description and meets objective)
