Assignment # 5 - Film Analysis Please hand in this sheet with a brief written group analysis. Assignment Description: Choose a film from the following selection: America History X The Big Blue Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets The Unbearable Lightness of Being Schindler's List The Wizard of Oz The Purple Rose of Cairo Pleasantville Wings of Desire Mishima Kafka Sin City City of Angels Rumble Fish All of the films listed above employ both black and white and color. Think about how B & W is coded differently from color in the film you have selected. Present to the class the appropriate scenes from the film using DVD chapter selections, and discuss their relavence. Groups are limited to a maximum of three students, however students may participate in more than one group if they wish. Assignment Objective: The purpose of this assignment is to provide a clear understanding of how black and white vs. color is used as a structural device for cutting up time and defining meaning in cinema, and the effect this has had on contemporary still photography. Suggestions: Enjoy the whole film once through, and then watch it again while taking careful notes.
