Earth Science 110

page divider

In this survey of the earth sciences only a general familiarity with cloud formation and cloud types is required.  You should be able to distinguish the three basic shapes of clouds, cirrus, stratus and cumulus.   A fourth cloud type, the cumulonimbus cloud is a cloud of vertical development which forms during a thunder storm.  These clouds are associated with violent weather, and thus their identification is of tremendous practical importance.

Try this page for a general review of cloud formation.

Review the information on cloud types found in your textbook, then click here when you are ready to try your hand at cloud identification.
