Cerritos College Department of Earth Science On-Line Tutorial Center Coastal landforms are produced by the interaction of a variety of geological forces. Tectonic forces may move the bedrock up or down along a particular coastline, rivers deposit sediment into the ocean, and waves erode, transport and deposit material depending on the shape of the shoreline. Even the wind and glaciers can act as important agents of erosion and deposition in particular locations. The typical coastal landforms covered in the first exercise will be of interest to students in most of our earth science, geology and physical geography courses. Students in Earth Science 4 (Oceanography), should also be able to recognize the four different types of estuaries in the second exercise, and the three types of coral reefs in the third.
