Myers-Briggs (Kiersey-Bates) Analysis

Class Information Assignments Resources

ISTJ?  ENFP?  ESFJ?  INTP?  The four-letter designation of the Myers-Briggs Personality Profile can be incomprehensible if you don’t know what those letters mean.  However, once you have the key to unlock the information, they can provide valuable insight and enable us to better understand each other.

Each of you has taken a Myers-Briggs Personality Assessment.  For this assignment, you will evaluate your personal results.  How accurate do you think your results were?  Does the designation really match your personality?  Use examples from your own life to show your reader how accurate (or inaccurate) the assessment was.  For some of you the results will be right on track.  For others, some parts will fit, but others will not.  Some of you may even find that the entire assessment is way off base.  Keep in mind that you are only evaluating how well the assessment worked for you--not evaluating the test itself.  You cannot evaluate an entire test based on your own results.  You simply do not have enough data to make that determination.

As you begin your essay, ask yourself a few questions. Determine what your purpose is.  Do you want to entertain your reader?  Inform your reader?  Or persuade your reader?  Who is your audience?  Is your audience already familiar with this assessment tool?  Or will you need to provide some background information and explanation?  What examples do you want to use to make your point?  Will one example for each element suffice, or will the essay be more convincing if you provide more examples?  How do you want to organize the essay?  Do you want to follow the four-letter designation?  Will you need to provide any type of comparison/contrast with the alternate designations?

Your essay will need to be a MINIMUM of THREE FULL pages.  You must follow the essay format outlined.  Essays that are not typed or do not follow the outlined format will be returned unevaluated, and you will receive a zero for the assignment. When you turn in your essay, you will need to include the following items in this order:

  1. The final draft

  2. A letter to me in which you discuss what interested you about this topic.  Describe any difficulties you had with the assignment and how you overcame those difficulties.  How did the peer reviews go this time?  Did you get the feedback you needed?  I would also like to hear what you think the strengths of your essay are and what you would still like to work on.  Your letter should be one full page (handwritten)

  3. All rough drafts, prewriting, and pair share forms

When you come to class the day your essay is due, your packet should be ready to go.  I will not have a stapler or paper clips with me.  You need to take care of all of this before you come to class.
