Homework for Next Class:

  • Review Lannon Chapters 1 and 11

  • Choose three prewriting strategies and generate material that may be used for Essay #1

In Class: Presentation – Decisions in the Writing Process (Katie Templeton) / Presentation – Guidelines for Narration (Natasha Majano) / Workshop – Organization and Choices / Turnitin.com / Formatting Review

What’s Due:

  • You should have your prewriting ready to work with in class

·         Homework for Next Class:

  •    Review Lannon Chapters 2 and 3   

  •  Write out a complete draft of Essay #1

Week 2

Jan 21

In Class: Presentation: Developing a Thesis Statement (Luis Tafolla) / Presentation: Analyzing your Audience (Mercedes Morales) / Presentation: Organizing Your Material (Leslie De Haro) / Workshop – Introductions / Habits of Mind Introduction

 What’s Due:

  • You should have a complete rough draft of Essay #1

·         Homework for Next Class:

  •   Review Lannon Chapters 4   

  •    Draft out four different introductions for Essay #1. Each introduction should be clearly labeled (for example, “Striking Statement,” “Fact or Statistic,” etc.)

  •  Work on revising Essay #1 / Bring in your essay + 3 copies for peer review.

Week 3

Jan 26

In Class: Presentation: Guidelines for Peer Review (Pablo Hernandez) / Presentation: Overview of Revision (Lia Romero) / Peer Review Essay #1

 What’s Due:

  • 4 copies of the second draft of Essay #1

  •  Four different introductions for essay #1

      Homework for Next Class:

  •      Review Lannon Chapters 7 and 8  

  • Work on the third draft of Essay #1

In Class: Presentation – Aim for Clarity (Nina Bereal) / Presentation – Trim the Fat (Mike Gonzales) / Presentation -- Help Sentences Flow (Rigo Arenas) / Presentation – Say Something Genuine (Jose Esparza) / Presentation - Guidelines for Deciding Tone (Anthony Gusman) / Workshop – Proofreading / More on Habits of Mind

What’s Due:

  • Third draft of Essay #1

·        Homework for Next Class:

  •     Finish Essay #1 – Have essay packet ready for submission at the beginning of class. Your packet should include all of your prewriting (at least three activities), draft of four different introductions, at least three drafts (in addition to the final draft), and the peer evaluations. Everything should be well organized (final draft on top) and clearly labeled. If I can’t tell what I am looking at, you are not likely to get credit for doing it.    

  •  In addition to putting together the packet you will submit in class, remember to run your final draft through Turnitin.com

  • Bring Man’s Search for Meaning with you to class.

  • Bring your composition Notebook with you to class.
