Online Class Procedures

Desktop client requirements:

  1. A Client Access Express and Operations Navigator CD will be loaned to the student to load on their off-campus workstation for use in this class.  (Off-campus host IP address is 67.116.99.251)

  2. The Websphere CDs containing  CODE/400 will also be loaned to the student  to provide CODE/400 on the desktop.  You can do a custom load so that you can load only CODE/400 is desired.

  3. Please remember the loaned CDs MUST be returned so others can borrow them.  There are a limited number of CD sets available.

  4. Host-on-demand access is also provided to the off-campus iSeries 400.  Information about this is available on the Host-on-Demand page.

PageOut site used for  Exams:

  1. Each student has user ID provide for the PageOut site. 

  2. The PageOut site is located at http://mhohly.pageout.net

  3. Click on "CIS 141 iSeries Operation" link.

  4. Next click on "gradebook".

  5. This brings up a list of exams for this class.  Click on the exam which is appropriate at the time.  You can use this same link to view past exams up to the final. 

Submitting lab assignments

  1. Lab assignments will be submitted via email.  That document will be submitted as an attachment.

  2. The submission sheets for the labs are available on the website as word documents.

  3. Right click on the submission document and download to your computer.    

  4. Open the document in Word (in one window) while accessing the iSeries 400 in another window.  Type or cut and paste your answers into the submission sheet.

  5. Where printouts are requested, insert a single cell table.  Change the tables font to Courier size 7 or 8.

  6. Highlight the printout screen on the iSeries 400 and copy then paste it into the single cell table in your submission sheet. 

  7. Your submission sheet will then contain all the answers and printouts. 

  8. If you want you may make a second sheet for just the printouts in Word and then submit both the printout document and submission sheet.  Make sure that each printout is labeled with the chapter and printout number.  For example: for the 2nd printout in Chapter 3, the label would read "Printout 3-2".

Creating lab assignment for submission:

  1. You will need to download the submission sheet for the lab you are working on.  The submission sheet is a Word document.  

  2. Next you might want to have 2 to 3 windows open when working on the lab.  

  3. One window will have the submission sheet.  This is where you will enter your answers to questions within the lab.  Lab instructions are found in the textbook.  You will need to follow the textbook instructions as the submission sheets do not contain the instructions.

  4. Another window for a sessions on the off-campus iSeries 400 system. 

  5. The third window would be for Operations Navigator.  Operations Navigator is used to view the printouts at home.  You will use Operations Navigator for printing at home.  You can also create a digital document containing the printouts.  Insert the printouts into the submission sheet.  Instructions will be provided below.

  6. When you have completed the lab you should have 1 or 2 documents (no more).  These documents need to be attached to an email for submission.

  7. You can download an example of a lab printout in a digital form.  This is a word document.  To download the document to view right click on the link and 'Save Target as.." and enter location to save the file to view.  Here is the sample lab document.

Expectations of online students:

  1. Student will read the textbook.

  2. Student will do the labs assigned (in the textbook) or provided by your instructor using either the on-campus iSeries 400, the off-campus iSeries 400 or another available AS/400.  If using other AS/400 contact the instructor to obtain the needed libraries, files etc.  

  3. Students are expected to review the PowerPoint presentations available to support the chapters and text.

  4. Students are expected to access other support materials as it becomes available.

  5. Students working online are expected to submit lab assignments via email or hard copies are to be sent or dropped off on campus in the instructors mailbox or during class times.

  6. Students are expected to contact the instructor at least once per week.  Contact can be one of the following:  submit an assignment, send email to ask a questions, or send an email to say you are working.

  7. If the student has questions you may either attend a class session or email the instructor.  I will attempt to answer your questions and provide pointers.  Please be as clear as possible when explaining your problems that needs assistance.  This will make it easier for me to provide better support. 

  8. Your User ID and password are the same of both the on-campus and off-campus machines.  They both need to be changed the first time you log on.  I suggest that you use the same password for simplicity.

  9. User ID on Host-on-Demand User ID  is 'opr0001' and the password is 'student' in lower case.
