BCIS 75 - Programming in HTML For Web
General Information
General Introduction

This class covers the various HTML tags, and method of programming web pages. You
should be familiar with the resources of the Internet. This course is not a graphic design
course, but is intended for the person who will do the coding for web sites.
It is aimed at the student who is self motivated, who needs a flexible schedule and who
works well independently. I believe you will find your exploration of HTML and web
pages an exciting and worthwhile adventure. I am looking forward to having you in
class and communicating with you through the use of technology.
Information for the class will be found on the class web page. I expect you to
reference this page on a regular basis. Changes to schedule, announcements, date for
exams are posted there and the responsibility of the student to access. Make special
note of the exam and due date. If there are problems you MUST
contact me before the date and work out needed arrangements.
Attendance and class activity

- Students are expected to communicate with the instructor at least once EVERY week.
This communication can take the following forms: submit an assignment, send a email
for help or clarification, or just sent an email indicating where you are in your course
progress.
- If I do not hear from you for a protracted period of time I will assume you are planning
to NOT complete the class. In this case you will be
dropped.
- This is a class which requires students to do the work consistently each week.
This class is short and there is not excessive time to complete the work. You should
plan to be doing and submitting your assignments each week.
Lectures, Assignment, Handouts, and student data files

- Lab assignments, syllabus, help documents, some lecture notes, and
supporting links will all be posted on the class home page.
http://www.cerritos.edu/hohly/online75/b75Sp2000ol.htm
- You will be expected to go to the class page and retrieve the assignments.
- You will find tutorials in your textbook and on your CD. You should consider doing
these tutorials. They cover the HTML topics needed for the assignments. The
tutorials will not be submitted for credit. The tutorial code can be cut and pasted
into your required assignments. You will find doing the tutorials helpful, but they
are optional.
- You should use the NOTEPAD or a ASCII text editor to enter your HTML code. Do not use products like WORD, FrontPage, or other HTML
editors.
- Refer to the class web page for how to obtain/download the data files for your student
disks. There are 3 compressed files which expand to between 8 and 10
diskettes. If you have a zip drive you might consider using a zip disk. The
computers in LA-3 and LA-5 have zip drives. There are separate links from the class
web page which provide the procedures for preparing and obtaining these files.
- If you are downloading the files at the college, PLEASE refer to the procedure designed
for diskette preparation at Cerritos College.
- You will need to save the files to a series of diskettes or a designated location on YOUR computers hard drive. Each chapter has its own folder
and/or diskette. Chapter 9 files are large and may span multiple folders/diskettes.
(Note: DO NOT STORE ANY OF YOUR WORK ON THE COLLEGE COMPUTER HARD DRIVES.)
- All files being submitted on diskette or by email should be scanned for viruses prior to
sending.
Submitting Assignments
- ALL assignments MUST be submitted by email, or on diskette. No Assignment will be
accepted on traditional paper.
- Once the assignments/labs are completed they are to submitted in one of the following 3
ways:
