Preparing student diskettes
To prepare your student diskettes for this course you will
need to download these three compress files. There are two sections to this page;
downloading data files at home, and downloading data files at Cerritos College.
Preparing data diskettes at Cerritos College
Steps
Note: These instructions work in the BCIS labs.
BCIS labs are SS-116, SS-108, and SS-109. No guarantee that it will work in any
other labs. The server may not be accessible from other college labs.
You will be preparing a set of 10
diskettes. These disks should be formatted and labeled #1 through #10.
Insert your first (#1) diskette in the A: drive.
Click on 'My Computer' to open up that window.
Click to open the A: drive window.
Click on 'Network Neighborhood.' Click on
BCM50001(the server).
Next click on the 'BCIS75 Files' folder.
This is the location of the data disk files on our server.
Resize the Network Neighborhood (BCIS75 Files)
and the A: drive windows so that both the A: drive and BCIS75 window fit on the screen
side by side.
Open Disk 1 folder on the Server. Highlight
the files and/or folders contained in the diskette 1 folder on the server. Drag and
drop these files/folders to the A: drive. At this point you have created your first
diskette.
Now change to the next diskette in the A: drive.
Click on the A: drive window. This will
make the A: drive the active window.
On the menu bar click on View then Refresh.
This will clear the A: drive window.
Click on the Server window. Click on the Up
icon. Click on the next disk folder that you are going to create.
Open the next disk folder on the server and
continue to highlight, drag and drop these files to the diskettes.
Repeat the above steps until all ten (10)
diskettes have been prepared.
When done close all of your windows and remove
your last diskette.
Now you have a complete set of data files.
Preparing data files at your home
Steps
Click on a link to a file. When you are asked to save
the file click OK.
Change to the Temp directory on your hard drive, this will
be the location where the compressed file will be saved. Then click OK.
You will need to download all three different compressed
files.
Once you have downloaded all three files you will need to
expand these files into the usable files that can be stored on your home computers hard
drive or transferred to floppy diskettes.
If you want to work from diskettes, you should have a box
of diskettes ready. It will take 8-10 diskettes.
Use windows drag and drop techniques to copy the files to
your diskettes.
You may choose to use the student files from folders on
your hard drive.
