Cerritos College freshman men’s soccer forward
Michael Paz (California HS) was
recently named by the (National Soccer Coaches
Association of America) NSCAA/adidas as a Community
College Men’s Division III 1st Team
All-American after leading the Falcons (18-4-4) to
the third round of the Southern California Regional
Playoffs. Paz, who led the team with 14 goals and
shared the team lead with nine assists, was one of
only two players from Southern California to be
recognized as a 1st Team selection.
The selection of Paz marks the first time a Falcon men's
soccer player has been named 1st Team All-American
in the school's history. Additionally,
Rebecca Juarez (Jurupa HS) became the
first player in the history of the women's program
to be named 1st Team All-American.
In addition
to his All-America honors, Paz was joined by
sophomore midfielder
Bryan Mejia (Montebello HS) as a 1st
Team All-West Region selection. Mejia, a member of
last year’s state and national championship team,
posted two goals and four assists on the year, but
was a catalyst for the Falcons on both sides of the
field.
Paz will
be invited to the NSCAA
All-America Luncheon, which will be held on
Saturday, January 19, as part of the 2008 NSCAA
Convention in Baltimore, Md. |
