In release sent out by the California Community
College Commission on Athletics (COA), the COA, in
association with the National Alliance of Two-Year
College Athletic Administrators (NATYCAA), released
the fall standings of the 2006-07 Pepsi/NATYCAA Cup,
State Associations Division.
Fresno City College, state champions in
wrestling and state finalist in men's soccer, leads
the 2006-07 State Associations Division standings
with 108.5 points, followed by Cerritos College
with 92.5 points. The Falcons won their first-ever
men's soccer state championship over Fresno City,
while the wrestling team took fourth place. Last
season, the falcons were in sixth place after the
fall season. Rounding out the top five colleges
are Orange Coast College (82 team points), El
Camino College (80) and Long Beach City College with
73 team points. Cerritos, El Camino and Long Beach
City are all part of the South Coast Conference.
A college is awarded points based on its teams'
final positions in post-conference competition. Each
college's top-five men's and top-five women's team
results count toward the school's overall point
total. Final standings will be announced at the end
of the spring season on May 30, 2007.
NATYCAA is the professional organization of
two-year college athletic administrators and
membership is open to all two-year institutions from
throughout the country. The criteria for the State
Associations division were developed by the COA in
conjunction with the California Community College
Sports Information Association (CCCSIA). This is
the fourth year that NATYCAA has sponsored a State
Associations division. Sierra College captured the
inaugural award in 2003-04, while Fresno City
College won the award in 2004-05, with Long Beach
City College earning the award in 2005-06.
The 2006-07 winners will be recognized at the
Pepsi/NATYCAA Awards Luncheon, held during the 2007
NATYCAA Convention, June 6-7 at the World Center
Marriott Resort in Orlando, Florida. Awards will be
presented to the top three colleges, and the top
twenty schools in the division will receive
recognition. |
