Casey Mazzotta,
son of Cerritos
College football
coach
Frank Mazzotta,
was recently
named the head
coach at Mt. San
Jacinto College
and will also
serve as a
full-time
instructor.
Casey, who
played football
at Cerritos
College from
1990-91,
returned to
serve as a
graduate
assistant with
the Falcons
before being
named the head
coach at
Bellflower High
School, where he
stayed for three
seasons. Casey
then spent two
seasons as the
head coach at
Foothill High
School before
serving as the
defensive
coordinator at
Fullerton
College for five
of the last last
six seasons he
spent with the
Hornets.
Mazzotta becomes
the sixth head
football coach
in the history
of Mt. San
Jacinto College
and inherits an
Eagles team that
went 7-3 last
season and came
in fourth place
in the Foothill
Conference.
"This is a
real growth
area," said
Casey Mazzotta,
"I'm really
happy to be here
and I think this
is a great
opportunity. I
look forward to
continuing the
upward swing
here and will
work hard to
keep this a
winning
program." While
at Cerritos,
Casey was a
two-time
All-Mission
Conference and
Academic
All-American
free safety for
the Falcons in
1990-91. He
received a
scholarship to Brigham Young University, where he was an Academic All-WAC
selection. In
his sophomore
season, the
Falcons won the
Mission
Conference North
Division
championship and
played in the
Orange County
Bowl.
"Casey is a
great selection
for the Mt. San
Jacinto
program," said
Frank Mazzotta.
"He's the kind
of guy you want
running your
program. I'm
sure he will do
a great job for
them." In the
two meetings
Frank had
against his son
at Fullerton
College, the
Falcons went 2-0.
