11.21.07 - FORMER CERRITOS BASEBALL PLAYER GETS PROMOTION

Former Cerritos College baseball player Louie Medina, who played for the Falcons from 1982-83 before embarking on a professional career, was recently promoted to Special Assistant to the General Manager/Player Personnel by the Kansas City Royals after spending the last three seasons as a professional scout.

While with the Falcons, he played for Gordie Douglas and earned 2nd Team All-South Coast Conference honors as a sophomore after hitting seven home runs and driving in 38 runs.

He then transferred to Arizona State University until signing with the Cleveland Indians after being selected in the ninth round of the 1985 draft. He played in 51 professional games and hit 10 home runs with 16 RBI. Medina  ended up playing professionally for eight seasons in both the Indians and Royals organizations before concluding his playing career after three seasons playing for Hiroshima in Japan. Medina also has the distinction of being drafted seven times over a five-year period, including being a 1st Round pick by Houston in 1984. He transitioned to the front office in 1995 with the Arizona Diamondbacks as an area supervisor in the scouting department.
