After having seven teams win conference
championships during the 2006-07 season, Cerritos
College captured their first South Coast Conference
Supremacy Award. A college is awarded points based
on its teams' final positions in post-conference
competition. Each college's top-five men's and
top-five women's team results count toward the
school's overall point total. For the Falcons, they
won the men’s soccer state championship for the
first time in school history, while the softball
team advanced all the way to the state championship
game.
Those teams
that won conference championships during the 2006-07
season included baseball, men’s swimming, men’s
tennis, wrestling, women’s soccer, women’s tennis
and women’s water polo. The championships won by
women’s soccer and women’s water polo were the first
in school history, while the men’s tennis team won
their third straight conference title.
This was the
fourth year of the supremacy award and the Falcons
finished fifth in the state during last season,
which was their highest finish ever. In past years,
Cerritos came in 14th in the state in
2005-06, eighth (2004-05) and 18th
(2003-04). The last three years, the Falcons came in
third place in the conference supremacy standings. |
