The Cerritos College athletic teams that compete
during the fall season comprised enough post season
points to put the Falcons in third place in the
state supremacy awards, according to the California
Community College Athletic Association (CCCAA), in
association with the National Alliance of Two-Year
College Athletic Administrators (NATYCAA). Cerritos,
riding the wave of the women’s soccer team’s state
championship, has amassed 93.5 points and trail only
Fresno City College (100 points) and South Coast
Conference rival Mt. San Antonio College (99.5
points).
According to
the CCCAA, A college is awarded points based on its
teams’ final positions in post-conference
competition. Each college’s top-five men’s and
top-five women’s team results count toward the
school’s overall point total. Complete standings and
scoring criteria are posted on the COA Web site,
www.coasports.org. Final standings will be announced
on May 28, 2008.
NATYCAA
is the professional organization of two-year college
athletic administrators and membership is open to
all two-year institutions from throughout the
country. The Pepsi NATYCAA Awards were
designed to recognize and reward overall program
excellence at the two-year college level. The
criteria for the State Associations division were
developed by the CCCAA in conjunction with the
California Community College Sports Information
Association (CCCSIA). This is the fifth year that
NATYCAA has sponsored a State Associations division.
The Falcons
collected points for the wrestling team’s second
place finish at the state championships, while the
women’s cross country team picked up big points for
finishing in fourth place. Of the 10 completed fall
sports, Cerritos College fields nine of them, with
six of them earning points toward the award.
Last year,
Cerritos placed fifth in the state supremacy
standings, their highest finish ever. |
