After a slow start on the first day of the California Community College men's track and field state championships at College of San Mateo, the Cerritos College men's track and field team picked up huge results to finish in a tie for second place. The Falcons, who finished with 58 team points, joined Moorpark College for second place, while Riverside College won the title with 68 team points. Along the way, the Falcons set a new school record, as they finished in first and second place in the decathlon, while freshman Torion Bailey (Mayfair HS) won the 800 meters.

Sophomore Nicholas Armstrong (Long Beach Poly HS) scored the second most points in school history (6867) to become the third athlete (fourth overall) to win the state decathlon championship. In addition to Armstrong winning the state title, sophomore David Thomas (Cerritos HS) placed second with 6110 points. Armstrong joins Christopher Richardson (2004 & 2005) and Andrew Phillips (2001) to win the state title. Richardson is now the head coach at Moorpark, the team the Falcons tied with for second place in the team championship. Armstrong also won the Southern California decathlon championship.

As for Bailey, he is the first Cerritos athlete to win the state title in the 800 meters, as he narrowly edged AJ Mitchell of El Camino College. Bailey finished with a time of 1:53.49, while Mitchell finished in 1:53.75. The Falcons also won the 400-meter relay in a time of 40.20 and edged second place Riverside.

Sophomore Kelsey Caesar (Forest Klein, TX HS/Cal State Long Beach) turned in a second place finish in the 400 meters (46.89) and placed fifth in the 200 meters with a time of 21.26. Also placing in two events was freshman Jeramey Cutler (Lakewood HS), who placed fifth in both the discus (48.49 meters) and shot put (15.58 meters).
