Cerritos College
freshman
Joe Terry (Long Beach Poly HS),
who helped the baseball team advance to the Southern
California Regional Playoffs, was named 1st Team
All-Southern California All-American as a designated
hitter. Terry, who led the team with a .426 batting
average, also led the squad in hits (72), runs (50),
doubles (14), triples (14), home runs (4), RBI (57),
total bases (126) and slugging percentage (.746).
With those lofty
numbers, Terry, who was also named the South Coast
Conference Player of the Year, places himself near
the top of several single-season records in Falcon
history, with his 14 triples being a new school
record. He beat the old record of 13, set by
Ron Ewart in 1985. In addition, his RBI
total is tied for the third best, while his batting
average is tied for the fourth best. His total bases
are also the third most in a season in school
history.
Terry is the 20th
Falcon to be named SCC Player of the Year, and first
since 2001, while his selection to the All-American
team is the second in as many years for Cerritos.
Last year, pitcher John Ortega was
named All-American.
