02.23.10 - ADRIA JACKSON NAMED CONFERENCE CO-MVP
Adria Jackson named conference Co-MVP    For the second year in a row, a member of the Cerritos College women's basketball team has been honored by being named the Co-Most Valuable Player of the South Coast Conference South Division. Last season, sophomore Mercedes Lewis was named the Co-MVP, while this season, sophomore guard Adria Jackson (Lynwood HS) has received the honor. Jackson and the rest of her team will be opening the Southern California Regional Playoffs on Saturday at 5:30 p.m. at Riverside College.
 
    Last year, Jackson missed most of the season with an injury, but was healthy enough to play in 27 of the team's 29 games thus far. She was second on the team in scoring (13.8) and rebounding (8.4) during the abbreviated divisional season, and has averages a team-leading 15.2 points a game throughout the season. A solid all-around player, Jackson is second on the team in season rebounding (6.6), while she also leads the squad with 48 steals and averages two assists a game.
 
    Joining her on the 1st Team are freshman forward Rose Boatner (Centennial HS), freshman guard April Perry (Cabrillo HS) and sophomore guard Maleta Daughtery (Redondo Union HS). Boatner has been a force on the boards, as she averaged 13.8 in divisional play. That includes a 25-rebound performance against El Camino College, which was two shy of the single-game school record. Boatner averaged 12 points a game in the division, while she averages 6.6 points and 10.6 rebounds a game over the course of the season. As for Perry, she led the team with a 16.0 scoring average in the division and is third on the team in scoring (11.8) and assists (2.7) on the year. With Daughtery, the team received 7.2 points and 4.4 assists in the division, while she accounts for 10.2 points and three assists a game.
 
    Freshman guard Jazlyn Afusia (St. Paul HS) was a 2nd Team all-conference pick and averaged 8.8 points a game in the division. Along with several others on the team, she is a three-point shooting threat, as she netted 39 three-pointers on the year and averages 7.3 points a game on the year.
