ADRIA JACKSON NAMED CONFERENCE CO-MVP |
For the second year in a row, a member
of the Cerritos College women's
basketball team has been honored by
being named the Co-Most Valuable Player
of the South Coast Conference South
Division. Last season, sophomore
Mercedes Lewis was named the
Co-MVP, while this season, sophomore
guard Adria
Jackson (Lynwood HS)
has received the honor. Jackson and the
rest of her team will be opening the
Southern California Regional Playoffs on
Saturday at 5:30 p.m. at Riverside
College.
Last year, Jackson missed most of the
season with an injury, but was healthy
enough to play in 27 of the team's 29
games thus far. She was second on the
team in scoring (13.8) and rebounding
(8.4) during the abbreviated divisional
season, and has averages a team-leading
15.2 points a game throughout the
season. A solid all-around player,
Jackson is second on the team in season
rebounding (6.6), while she also leads
the squad with 48 steals and averages
two assists a game.
Joining her on the 1st Team are freshman
forward
Rose Boatner (Centennial
HS), freshman guard
April Perry (Cabrillo
HS) and sophomore guard Maleta Daughtery
(Redondo Union HS). Boatner has
been a force on the boards, as she
averaged 13.8 in divisional play. That
includes a 25-rebound performance
against El Camino College, which was two
shy of the single-game school record. Boatner
averaged 12 points a game in the
division, while she averages 6.6 points
and 10.6 rebounds a game over the course
of the season. As for Perry, she led the
team with a 16.0 scoring average in the
division and is third on the team in
scoring (11.8) and assists (2.7) on the
year. With Daughtery, the team received
7.2 points and 4.4 assists in the
division, while she accounts for 10.2
points and three assists a game.
Freshman guard Jazlyn Afusia
(St. Paul HS) was a 2nd Team
all-conference pick and averaged 8.8
points a game in the division. Along
with several others on the team, she is
a three-point shooting threat, as she
netted 39 three-pointers on the year and
averages 7.3 points a game on the year.
