01.11.11 - CERRITOS IN THIRD PLACE AFTER FALL SEMESTER

    With seven of their nine fall sports advancing to the post-season, Cerritos College has racked up 91.5 team points and sit in third place in the National Alliance of Two-Year College Athletic Administrators (NATYCAA) standings. The Falcons, who saw their wrestling team finish in second place at the state championships, which earned them 19 points, trail Fresno City College (117 team points) and Mt. San Antonio College (103 points).

    A college is awarded points based on its team’s final positions in post-conference competition. Each college’s top-five men’s and top-five women’s team results count toward the school’s overall point total.

    In addition to the wrestling team's success, both the football and women's soccer teams earned 17.5 points on the strength of their post-season success. Four of the men's teams earned points, while the women's teams had three teams advance to the post-season. The Falcons have had some success in the NATYCAA standings in past years, as they finished in second place after the 2007-08 and 2008-09 seasons. They placed 10th at the end of last year.

    The 2010-11 NATYCAA Cup winner will be recognized at the NATYCAA Awards Luncheon, held during the 2011 NATYCAA Convention, June 15-16 at the World Center Marriot Resort in Orlando, Florida. Awards will be presented to the top three colleges, and the top twenty schools in the division will receive recognition.
