FORMER SOFTBALL PITCHER EARNS AWARD |
Hillary Perez-Ashley,
who was named the state's Pitcher of the
Year in both of her seasons with the
Cerritos College softball team, was
recently named the West Virginia
Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WVIAC)
Pitcher of the Week. Perez-Ashley, a
junior at West Virginia Wesleyan
University, went 4-0 during the week, as
she allowed just six runs in 28 innings
of work. She is now 8-1 on the year with
a 2.39 ERA, while striking out 55
batters in 52 innings of work, and has
helped the Bobcats to a 17-3 mark this
season.
While with the Falcons, Perez-Ashley became the first
Cerritos pitcher to be named the state's
Pitcher of the Year two seasons in a
row, as well as being selected 1st Team
All-American, Southern California
Pitcher of the Year and South Coast
Conference Pitcher of the Year both
seasons. She had a remarkable 33-2
record with a 1.91 ERA and 120
strikeouts as a sophomore after
recording a 31-7 mark with a 1.97 ERA
her freshman campaign.
In her time with Cerritos, Perez-Ashley set career records in
wins (64) and appearances (84), as well
as second in career starts (74) and
single-season wins (33), third in
innings pitched (425 2/3), while her
.943 winning percentage (33-2) in
her sophomore year is the highest ever
for a pitcher with more than 17 wins.
