MEN'S WATER POLO SEEDED #7 FOR REGIONAL
PLAYOFFS |
From 2001-02, Cerritos College men's water polo
coach
Joe Abing held the same position at
Ventura College. In his second year with the
Pirates, he led them to the second round of the
Southern California Regional Playoffs. If he is to
lead his 2011 Falcon team to the second round of the
playoffs, he's going to have to get through his
former team, as the two square off on Thursday
at noon in the first round of the Southern
California Regional Playoffs, which will take place
at Riverside College. The Falcons (19-13), who
finished in second place in the South Coast
Conference, are seeded #7 out of the 10 teams, while
10th-seeded Ventura (13-12) finished in third place
in the Western State Conference during the regular
season and finished in second place in the
conference tournament. The winner of the game will
face #2-seeded Long Beach City College at 12:45 p.m.
on Friday. The Vikings defeated Cerritos in the SCC
championship game.
In the last six years, Abing has posted a 4-4 record against
Ventura, but have lost the last three meetings
against the Pirates. It will mark the first meeting
of the season between the two teams, and first since
a 16-10 Ventura non-conference win in 2009.
