AFTER FALL SEASON, CERRITOS TIED FOR FIFTH
IN NATYCAA CUP |
Led by the football team advancing to the Southern California Championship game, Cerritos College finished the fall season tied for fourth place for the NATYCAA Cup, which is sponsored by the National Alliance of Two-Year College Athletic Administrators. The Falcons are tied with Golden West College for fifth place with 76.5 team points, and trail only American River College (107 points), Mt. San Antonio College (96), Fresno City College (92) and Orange Coast College, who is in fourth place with 77 points.
A college is awarded points based on its team’s final positions in post-conference competition. Each college’s top-five men’s and top-five women’s team results count toward the school’s overall point total.
For advancing to the Southern California Championship game, the football team earned the school 17.5 points, while the sixth place finish for the men's cross country team was good for 15 team points. The early exits by the men's and women's soccer teams, normally state championship contenders, hurt the team total. The men received 8.5 points after getting eliminated in the second round, while the women didn't earn any points after their first round upset loss to Orange Coast.
Complete standings and scoring criteria are posted on the CCCAA website, www.cccaasports.org. Final standings will be announced at the conclusion of the spring seasons.
