CLARK EVANS NAMED ALL-AMERICAN TE |
Cerritos College sophomore tight end Clark Evans (Los Alamitos HS/University of Colorado) had a flair for making acrobatic catches during the season, as the Falcons captured their second straight Northern Conference championship and appearance in the Southern California championship game. After finishing the season with 31 receptions for 444 yards (14.3 average) and a team-high nine touchdowns, Evans was named 1st Team California Community College Football Coaches Association All-American.
Evans was also joined by four teammates to be selected to Region IV First Team All-California. In addition to Evans, freshmen offensive linemen Kent Collins (Los Alamitos HS) and Sean Rubalcava (St. Paul HS), along with sophomore quarterback BJ Denker (North Torrance HS) and sophomore nose guard Fred Lavulo (Cottonwood, UT HS).
Denker, who set a new school record with 2319 yards and 31 touchdowns this season, also set a single-season school record for most total net yards (2749) and most total plays (378). He tossed a school-record six touchdown passes against Long Beach City College, en route to 33 career scoring passes, also a school career record. The duo of Collins and Rubalcava helped the Falcons amass a school-record 4,943 total yards on the year, as well as a 28.9 scoring average. On defense, Lavulo helped clog the middle, which allowed the linebackers to average almost 60 tackles each, while he posted 24 tackles, along with 2 1/2 tackles for loss and three quarterback hurries.
