Cerritos College Athletics and the California Community
College Men's and Women's Basketball Coaches
Association have teamed up to support Coaches
vs. Cancer with a night of fundraising and
awareness. On Saturday, February 4 at Gahr High
School, the Falcon men's and women's basketball
teams will host Long Beach City College in South
Coast Conference games as part of this worthy
cause.
Admission for the game is free, but as part of the fund
raising effort, everyone who makes a minimum
$5 donation will be given a raffle ticket. At
halftime of both the women's game (5:00 p.m.)
and men's game (7:00 p.m.), a ticket will be
drawn and the recipient will get a chance to win
a gift certificate if they are successful in
making a free throw. If they miss the free
throw, another ticket will be drawn.
Upon entering the gym, there will be also be a "Wall of
Remembrance" with markers for anyone who wishes
to write a message or a name of someone they
know who is a cancer survivor. Another way the
college is raising money is with a snack bar,
with all proceeds going to the American Cancer
Society.
About Coaches vs. Cancer
Coaches vs. Cancer is a nationwide collaboration
between the American Cancer Society and the
National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC)
that empowers basketball coaches, their teams,
and local communities to make a difference in
the fight against cancer. The program leverages
the personal experiences, community leadership,
and professional excellence of basketball
coaches nationwide to increase cancer awareness
and promote healthy living through year-round
awareness efforts, fundraising activities, and
advocacy programs.
