Cerritos gets swept out of the playoffs
If informed that his two
pitching aces would throw complete games after the
first two games of their Southern California
Regional Playoff series against Bakersfield College,
Cerritos College baseball head coach
Ken
Gaylord would more then likely be satisfied
with that effort. After sophomore
Miguel
Flores (St. John Bosco HS) tossed a
five-hitter in an opening 4-1 win over the Renegades
(30-17) on Friday, sophomore
John Ortega
(Downey HS) surrendered eight hits and struck
out 13 batters in his complete game effort. But the
Falcons came up short offensively, 3-2, in that
game, forcing a third and deciding game at Kincaid
Field on Saturday. That’s where Gaylord would have
stopped being satisfied, as Cerritos (30-16) fell
behind 10-2 and went on to lose, 14-7, which
eliminated them from the playoffs and ended their
season. The consecutive losses at home in the first
round of the playoffs marks the second season in a
row that the Falcons were swept out of the
playoffs...[more]

02.02.08 - Field's
namesake in attendance for Cerritos win
There was a very special guest in
attendance at the Cerritos College baseball game on
Saturday afternoon, although he was wearing a
uniform unfamiliar with those who know his history.
For 22 years, Wally Kincaid was in the Falcon
pinstripes, as he guided his teams to six state
championships and 678 career wins. The college
eventually named the field after him, while he has
since been elected to the Baseball Coaches Hall of
Fame and was selected Baseball America’s Coach of
the Century for the 1900’s. But since his retirement
after the 1980 season, he has volunteered his
knowledge and services to those he coached who are
now head coaches of their own. This year, he is
providing assistance at Santa Ana College (2-2),
where he coached Don Sneddon, as well as Falcon
(4-1) head coach Ken Gaylord, who were
teammates while they both played at Cerritos under
Kincaid. The two teams put on a special show for
Kincaid and the fans, as Cerritos scored the
game-winning run in the bottom of the ninth inning
for a 7-6 non-conference victory...[more]

Cerritos looks to get past horrific game
After their season-opening 7-0 win over
Rio Hondo College on Saturday afternoon, few could
have predicted that the Cerritos College baseball
team would be on the losing end of an 11-0 score
against Chaffey College Tuesday afternoon. The
Falcons (1-1) allowed seven runs in the top of the
fourth inning and didn’t get their lone hit of the
game until there were two outs in the bottom of the
sixth inning. By contrast, the Panthers (1-0) only
had eight hits, but utilized six walks, four hit
batters and four Cerritos errors in claiming their
win...[more]
01.28.08 - Rain
washes away another game
Cerritos College baseball coach Ken
Gaylord spent Monday morning trying to find a
way to drain all of the water from his dugouts,
after they were filled with water due to all of the
heavy rainfall. The wet conditions have now caused
the Falcons to cancel another game, this time it was
a rescheduled game against Los Angeles Valley
College, that was originally postponed January 25.
There is no definite date set to when the game will
be made up. The team is still slated to host Chaffey

01.27.08 - Rod
Barajas signed by Toronto Blue Jays
After spurning their offers last season,
former Cerritos College catcher Rod Barajas
has agreed to a one-year contract with the Toronto
Blue Jays for $1.2 million, with an option to be the
team’s primary back-up in 2009. After the 2006
season, Barajas was a free agent with the Texas
Rangers, and appeared to be headed to the Blue Jays.
But, he changed his mind at the last minute and
signed a one-year deal with the Philadelphia
Phillies. After spending last year with the
Phillies, he was once again a free agent, and worked
out a deal with Toronto for the upcoming year...[more]
