Trailing 5-3 in the bottom of the ninth inning, the Cerritos College baseball team was looking to snap their worst losing streak in school history. They were able to load the bases with one out, but freshman outfielder Sebastian Frutos (Bellflower HS) was picked off first base before sophomore second baseman Chris Hefner (El Dorado HS) popped up to the shortstop to drop a 5-3 South Coast Conference decision to Mt. San Antonio at Kincaid Field on Friday. Suffering through their worst season in school history, the Cerritos College baseball team continues to struggle for run support, as they dropped their 11th straight game, a 5-2 South Coast Conference decision against Mt. San Antonio College at Kincaid Field on Tuesday. The Falcons (7-27, 4-15) have scored two or fewer runs in nine of their last 10 games and will get another chance to snap their losing skid against the first place Mounties (26-8, 15-4) at 2:30 p.m. on Thursday before closing out their season at home on Friday...[more]

The Falcons dropped their ninth straight game, a 7-2 decision to East LA.For the ninth game in a row, the Cerritos College baseball team failed to come up with a win, as they dropped a 7-2 South Coast Conference decision to East Los Angeles College on Thursday afternoon. It also was the 17th time this year the team has scored two or fewer runs in a game, which have all been losses.

Against East LA, the Falcons trailed 3-0 heading into the bottom of the third inning and pushed a single run across the board against starting pitcher Juan Vera (5-3). In that stanza, freshman outfielder Zach Mello (La Mirada HS) led off with a walk, moved to second base on a single by sophomore second baseman Chris Hefner (El Dorado HS), with both runners advancing on a sacrifice bunt by freshman shortstop Cesar Castillo (Bellflower HS). Sophomore first baseman Josh Ancona (Bellflower HS/El Camino College) then drove home Mello with a sacrifice fly. A single by freshman outfielder Daniel Renteria (Bellflower HS) kept the inning alive when his base hit through the left side became vacant when Seahawks shortstop Kyle Demarco was moving toward second base with Dorantes on the move. 03.22.12 - Pitching leads Falcons to win
Christian Price picked up the win for the Falcons. It took going through the lineup a little more than one time, but once freshman starting pitcher Christian Price (Cerritos HS) found his rhythm, he pitched strong enough to help lead the Cerritos College baseball team to a 3-2 South Coast Conference win over El Camino College at Kincaid Field on Thursday. The win is the second in three games for the Falcons (5-15, 2-6), who close out the three-game set against the Warriors (14-7, 3-5) at noon on Saturday at El Camino.

For Price (1-1), he struggled with his location through the first 11 batters, allowing two hits, three walks and a hit batter. Despite the location issues, he limited the Warriors to just one run and relied on his defense to come up with plays when called upon. After loading the bases with two outs in the second inning, he got Peter Ives to tap the first pitch back to the mound to end the threat. The lone run came as a result of a lead-off hit by Ronnie Galosic, two walks and a pair of fielder's choices to score the run...[more]

03.13.12 - Losses continue to mount for Cerritos
Falcons lose lead and game against ECC Compton Center.Through the first six innings against ECC Compton Center on Tuesday in a South Coast Conference game at Kincaid Field, Cerritos College left-handed starting pitcher Jake Bell (Burroughs HS) was cruising along, allowing just three hits and recording five strikeouts. However, in the top of the seventh inning, the Tartars posted four runs, with the big blow being a three-run home run from Oscar Leon, and the Falcons dropped their fourth straight SCC game, 7-3 to fall to 3-13 overall and 0-4. The two teams will meet at 2:30 p.m. on Thursday in the second of their three-game set.

Cerritos took a 2-0 lead through the first five innings before Compton (9-7, 2-2) started their comeback. In the bottom of the fourth inning, sophomore outfielder Evan Sanchez (St. Paul HS) led off with a walk and advanced to second base on a sacrifice bunt from freshman catcher Sergio Barboza (Bellflower HS). 03.08.12 - Cerritos continues to struggle for runs
The last three times the Cerritos College baseball team took the field, the starting pitching assignment has been handed to sophomore left-hander Jake Bell (Burroughs HS). But on Thursday, in their second of a three-game series against Long Beach City College, the Falcons turned to freshman Gael Esparza (Santa Fe HS) in their South Coast Conference game at Kincaid Field. Esparza struggled at times and allowed three runs in 4 1/3 innings, as the Vikings posted a 3-1 win over the Cerritos (3-11, 0-2). The two teams close out their series at noon on Saturday at Joe Hicks Field. 02.28.12 - Solid pitching effort for naught in 2-1 loss
For the second straight game, Cerritos College sophomore left-handed starting pitcher Jake Bell (Burroughs HS) has thrown very well, especially on Wednesday against Glendale College in a non-conference game. He earned the win against Los Angeles Valley College last week, but saw his complete-game effort against the Vaqueros result in a loss, as the Falcons dropped a 2-1 decision. Bell (1-4) surrendered just four hits on the day, one of them being a solo home run to Edgar Montes in the bottom of their fourth inning, which turned out to be the game-winning run, as Cerritos stranded seven runners on base. The Falcons (3-9) will now start South Coast Conference play next Tuesday at 2:00 p.m. when they travel to Long Beach City College. The conference has moved to a three-game series, which means the two teams will play their three-game set and then not see each other the remainder of the season...[more]

02.23.12 - Cerritos provides run support in 11-6 win
Chris Hefner collected four of the Falcons 18 hits in their 11-6 win over Los Angeles Valley. It took 19 days, but the Cerritos College baseball team was able to secure their third win of the season after they defeated Los Angeles Valley College, 11-6 in a non-conference game at Kincaid Field on Thursday. The last time the Falcons (3-8) won a game was back on February 4 when they defeated the same Monarchs (4-5) team, 11-10, after falling behind 10-0 three innings into the game. The win also snapped a seven-game losing streak. Cerritos will now travel to Glendale College next Tuesday at 2:00 p.m. in their final non-conference game before starting defense of their South Coast Conference title.

One of the keys to the win was the hitting of the 8-9-1 batters in the lineup, as they went a combined 10-for-17 and scored four of the team's runs. Every batter in the lineup had at least one hit, as the Falcons clubbed a season-high 18 hits on the day.

Starting pitcher Christian price struggled in his first collegiate start. In 2011, the Cerritos College baseball team suffered through a five-game losing streak, while in 2008, it was a six-game losing streak early in the season that started the team off slowly. On Tuesday, Cerritos dropped their seventh in a row, a 10-4 non-conference decision to Glendale College to fall to 2-8 on the season. The team will host Los Angeles Valley College on Thursday at 2:00 p.m. at Kincaid Field in a rain make-up from last week.

On Friday, the Falcons saw their season record drop to 2-7 after a 12-3 non-conference setback against Golden West College at Kincaid Field. In those six straight losses, Cerritos has scored just 15 runs. They will look to try and turn the corner on Tuesday at 2:00 p.m. when they host Glendale College in another non-conference game.

Sophomore starting pitcher Kyle Harper (La Mirada HS/Rio Hondo College) was peppered for five hits in the first two innings, but was able to keep the Rustlers (5-4) off the board. However, in the third inning, a leadoff single by Daniel DeWolf was followed by a run-scoring double from Chase Harrison, while Blake Cooper drove in the second run of the inning. By the fifth inning, Harper (0-3) was still struggling and was pulled after allowing a walk and RBI base hit to Harrison (5-for-5, three RBI, three runs). In 2011, the Falcons opened up 2-7 on the year, but turned things around enough to win the South Coast Conference championship and advance to the Southern California Super Regional. After their 9-1 non-conference loss at Santa Ana College on Thursday, Cerritos dropped to 2-6 on the year, which includes losses in five straight games. They will look to snap that streak on Friday when they host Golden West College at 2:00 p.m. at Kincaid Field. 02.13.12 - Fourth straight loss suffered in 6-5 defeat
After the first three innings, it looked as if the Cerritos College baseball team was in a good position to snap their three-game losing streak. They held a 5-0 lead over host Golden West College in a non-conference game on Monday, but by the end of the fifth inning they trailed, 6-5. The score would finish the same way, although the Falcons (2-5) had chances to take the lead in the eighth and ninth innings, and ended the game with the bases loaded. 02.04.12 - Cerritos splits doubleheader
Cerritos split their doubleheader with Los Angeles Valley. After their first game of a double-header against Los Angeles Valley College, where the Cerritos College baseball team stranded 13 runners on base and dropped a 2-1 decision, they felt that if they could generate as many base runners in their second game, they would change the tide of the outcome. But for the Falcons, they found themselves trailing 10-0 after the first three innings against the Monarchs. But Cerritos slowly worked their way  back into the game and turned five walks, five hit batters and two LA Valley errors into 11 runs to come away with an 11-10 non-conference win. The Falcons (2-1) have now played three one-run games to start the season and will travel to Golden West College in a 2:00 p.m. non-conference game on Tuesday.

Sophomore Anthony Nunes (Gahr HS) didn't fare much better, allowing four runs in two innings of work. It wasn't until freshman Jared Gibson (Downey HS) came on, that the Monarch bats started to go silent, as he allowed just four hits in 3 2/3 innings of work. Sophomore Cesar Chavez (Mayfair HS) ended up earning the win by pitching the final 2 1/3 innings and received the final run support in the eighth inning...[more]

The Falcons, who trailed, 8-3, scored the final six runs of the game in the latter three innings, with only two of the runs being earned. Cerritos (1-0) will now face Los Angeles Valley College tomorrow in a doubleheader at 10:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. at Kincaid Field.

The Falcons had runners at second and third base with one out after sophomore third baseman Josh Ancona (Bellflower HS/El Camino College) reached on an error and sophomore catcher Chase Holland (La Mirada HS/Fullerton College) bunted for a hit that Owls (0-1) pitcher Juan Cabral dove at, but couldn't catch. A sacrifice bunt by freshman first baseman Daniel Renteria (Bellflower HS) set the table for freshman designated hitter Joe Aguirre (Kennedy HS). He hit a 2-2 offering from Cabral (0-1) to Citrus third baseman Mike Rowland, whose throw was well over the head of first baseman Ricky Mount. The ball rolled into the Falcon bullpen, and before right fielder Andrew Chico could retrieve the ball, pinch-runners Cesar Castillo (Bellflower HS) and Andres Dorantes (La Mirada HS) had raced around the bases for both runs to win the game.
