11.12.09 - Pair of baseball players sign early
Skye Severns and Joe Terry about to sign their letters of intent.The Cerritos College baseball team has announced that two of their sophomores have signed early letters of intent with four-year universities. Second baseman/designated hitter Joe Terry (Long Beach Poly HS) has inked with Cal State Fullerton, while pitcher Skye Severns (Claremont HS) has signed with New Mexico State University. Both are expected to play an integral role in the upcoming Falcon season.

Terry had a tremendous freshman season and was selected in the 17th Round of the Major League Baseball draft by the Seattle Mariners. Terry, who helped the baseball team advance to the Southern California Regional Playoffs, was named 1st Team All-Southern California All-American as a designated hitter. He also led the team with a .426 batting average, as well as leading the squad in hits (72), runs (50), doubles (14), triples (14), home runs (4), RBI (57), total bases (126) and slugging percentage (.746)...[more]

05.09.09 - Series slips away from Falcons
Knowing they had to win a pair of games on Saturday, the Cerritos College baseball team set out for a long day. After posting an 8-7 win over #7-seeded Mt. San Jacinto College in the morning to even their series, the 11th-seeded Falcons (27-17) opened up a 10-3 lead in the tie-breaker. However, the Eagles (33-11) scored eight runs in the seventh inning and held on for a 12-11 victory. The loss ends the Falcons season, while the program has not won a playoff series since the 2003 season...[more]

05.08.09 - Cerritos can't keep up with the Eagle bats
The talk prior to the first round of the Southern California Regional Playoffs was that the Cerritos College baseball team would be facing a pair or pitchers from Mt. San Jacinto College that put up very impressive numbers on the year. The Falcons, seeded #11, were facing the #7-seeded Eagles in a best-of-three series starting on Friday afternoon. After taking an early 1-0 lead, Cerritos saw Mt. San Jacinto open up a 9-1 lead after five innings. But the sixth, Falcons were able to plate five runners against starting pitcher BJ Salsbury, who came into the game with a 13-1 record and a 1.93 ERA. 05.03.09 - Falcons travel to Mt. San Jacinto for playoffs
After finishing in a three-way second place tie in the South Coast Conference, the Cerritos College baseball team was seeded 11th for the Southern California Regional Playoffs and will travel to face #7-seeded Mt. San Jacinto College in a best-of-3 series starting on Friday. The first game is scheduled for 2:00 p.m. on Friday, while the second game will be played at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. If a third game is necessary, it will be played 30 minutes after the conclusion of the 11:00 a.m. game...[more]

05.02.09 - Joe Terry named conference Player of the Year
Photo of Joe Terry.After turning in one of the most amazing hitting seasons in recent memory, Cerritos College second baseman Joe Terry (Long Beach Poly HS) was named the South Coast Conference Player of the Year. Terry, who will be named to the All-State team as a designated hitter, batted .417 with a school-record 10 triples, stole 8-of-9 bases and also led the team in RBI (34), total bases (68) and slugging percentage (.708) His RBI total tied for the second best in school history, with the record of 39 being set in 1989 by Brian Hunter. Terry led a group of four players to be named to the first team, as the Falcons finished the SCC in second place and will find out who they will face in the first round of the Southern California Regional Playoffs on Sunday.

Joining Terry on the 1st Team were sophomore pitcher George Sanchez (Gahr HS), freshman pitcher Chris Villalobos (El Rancho HS) and sophomore outfielder David Neff (John Glenn HS). Sanchez, who was a 1st Team selection at designated hitter last season, went 5-2 on the mound with one save and a 3.20 ERA. He appeared in 59 innings and struck out 52 batters. As for Villalobos, he went 6-3 on the mound and led the team with 59.1 innings pitched and posted a team-leading 3.03 ERA. At the plate, Neff led the Falcons with a .460 batting average, which is the sixth best in school history. He also had 46 hits, which was one shy of tying the school record of 47, set by Carlos Olea in 1995. Neff also stole seven bases...[more]

05.01.09 - Cerritos locks down second place with win
Knowing a win over Los Angeles City College would secure a second place conference finish and automatic berth into the Southern California Regional Playoffs, the Cerritos College baseball team removed all doubt by turning a 4-1 lead into a 9-1 advantage before settling for a 10-5 win over the Cubs at Griffith Park on Friday afternoon. The win improves the Falcons record to 16-8 in the South Coast Conference and 26-15 overall. Going into the final day of the regular season, there was a three-way tie for second place with Cerritos, El Camino College at Mt. San Antonio. The conference bylaws state that in the event of a three-way tie, the first criteria to break the tie is each team's cumulative record against the other two teams they are tied with. For the Falcons, they went 4-2 against the Warriors and the Mounties, while El Camino was 3-3 and Mt. San Antonio was 2-4. So with the win, Cerritos locked down second place and will find out on Sunday afternoon where they are seeded in the 18-team regional playoffs. teams seeded 15-18 will compete in a one-game play-in game on Tuesday, while the remaining teams will open their three-game series next Friday...[more]

04.30.09 - Falcons take care of business against LA City

Cerritos looks to close out the season on Friday with a victory over the same Cubs team at Griffith Park.Looking to close out the regular season with wins in their final two South Coast Conference games with hopes of earning a playoff bid, the Cerritos College baseball team defeated last place Los Angeles City College, 11-5 on Thursday at Kincaid Field. The Falcons, who entered the day tied for third place with Mt. San Antonio College, are now 15-8 in the SCC and 25-15 on the year. They finish up their regular season on Friday with a 2:30 p.m. game against the same Cubs team at Griffith Park. The selection of who advances to the playoffs will be announced on Saturday afternoon.

The Falcons strung together runs in five of the first seven innings to take an 11-0 lead over LA City before the Cubs scored the final five runs of the game. Cerritos started their scoring in the first inning in record-breaking fashion. After freshman outfielder Jake Mayoral (Rocklin HS) led off with a base hit and stole second base, freshman second baseman Joe Terry (Long Beach Poly HS) hit his school-record 14th triple to score Mayoral. Terry broke the 24-year-old record of 13 triples set by Ron Ewart during the 1985 season. Terry scored on his triple when LACC's Mario Cabello's throw to third was wild...[more]

04.28.09 - Chance at conference title gets away

Chris Villalobos allowed just two hits through six innings; however, it wasn't enough as Long Beach came away with a 4-3 victory over Cerritos.With a shot at moving into at least a tie for first place in the South Coast Conference, the Cerritos College baseball team dropped a 4-3 game against Long Beach City at Kincaid Field on Tuesday afternoon. With the win, the Vikings earn at least a share of the conference championship, while the Falcons are still fighting for their playoff lives. Cerritos closes out the season on Thursday and Friday with a home-and-home series against eighth place Los Angeles City, while Long Beach City ends their regular season at 26-16 overall and 17-7 in the SCC. The Falcons (24-15, 14-8), who host the Cubs at 2:30 p.m. on Thursday, came into the game tied with El Camino College (14-7), while fourth place Mt. San Antonio College was right behind at 13-8.

    Cerritos took a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the fourth inning when freshman shortstop Max McEleney (Long Beach Wilson HS) singled and came home on a triple by freshman second baseman Joe Terry (Long Beach Poly HS). 04.25.09 - Win moves team closer to title

A 7-3 victory over rival Long Beach City College put Cerritos Baseball one step closer to wining the conference title.Heading into their crucial South Coast Conference game at Long Beach City College, the Cerritos College baseball team wasn't sure if their week-long bye was going to effect their hot bats. Well, after getting two runs on four hits in the top of the first inning, it was apparent that the Falcons were still in overdrive. Cerritos went on to post a 7-3 win on Saturday afternoon at Joe Hicks Memorial Field on Saturday afternoon over the Vikings to move one step closer to winning the conference title. With the win, Cerritos is now 14-7 in SCC play, while LBCC dropped to 16-7. Entering the day, Cerritos, Mt. San Antonio and El Camino all had 13-7 conference, while the Vikings were 16-6. The two, who are now in a virtual tie for first place, will now play on Tuesday at 2:30 p.m. at Kincaid Field and another Falcon win will put them in first place with two games remaining. Long Beach City's regular season comes to an end on Tuesday.

04.19.09 - Cerritos rips Oxnard, 20-8

Cerritos had 24 hits to cruise to a 20-8 victory over Oxnard on Sunday marking the sixth consecutive game that they have scored in double-figures.Not since the 1990 season has a Cerritos College baseball team scored in double-figures in six games in a row. The 2009 version of the Falcons accomplished that feat on Sunday when they pounded out 24 hits in a 20-8 non-conference win over Oxnard College at Kincaid Field. The win was also the fourth in a row for Cerritos, which is also their longest of the season, as they improved to 23-14 on the year, while the Condors dropped to 11-23. After a pair of byes in South Coast Conference action, the Falcons will play their most important game to date, as they travel to face first place Long Beach City College on Saturday at noon. Cerritos (13-7) is currently a game behind the Vikings (14-6), while both teams have four games remaining.

    In putting together their lofty numbers against Oxnard, freshman outfielder Jake Mayoral (Rocklin HS) tied a school record with six hits, while he reached base all seven times he batted. He joins Jacob Ferris (2004) and Keith Lugo (1977) as the only Falcons to ever get six hits in a game. Along with the accomplishment of Mayoral, freshman third baseman Steve Hernandez (Downey HS) went 4-for-6 with six RBI, which is one shy of tying the single-game school record for most runs driven in for one game. Hernandez, who entered the game with only 20 at-bats on the season, had a two-run double in the first inning, a two-run single in the fourth and RBI base hits in the fifth and sixth innings...[more]

04.18.09 - Falcons stay in playoff hunt with win

Cerritos Baseball defeated Pasadena City College 13-7 on Saturday afternoon keeping them in the playoff hunt.With the amount of games remaining dwindling away for the Cerritos College baseball team to put themselves in position for a berth in the Southern California Regional Playoffs, the team is aware that they need to keep winning to stay in contention. The Falcons won their third South Coast Conference game in a row after defeating Pasadena City College, 15-9 at Kincaid Field on Saturday afternoon. Cerritos is now 13-7 in conference play and 22-14 overall, as they play a make-up non-conference game from earlier in the year tomorrow at 1:00 p.m. when they host Oxnard College.

Entering the day, Cerritos was a game out of first place and in a three-way tie for third place with Mt. San Antonio College (11-6) and El Camino College (11-6), while Long Beach City College led the pack with a 13-6 record...[more]

04.16.09 - Bats stay hot in 16-8 victory
The Cerritos College baseball team continued to swing hot bats, as they pounded out 15 hits in a 16-8 South Coast Conference win over Pasadena City College at Brookside Park on Thursday. The win improved the Falcons to 21-14 on the year and 12-7 in SCC play, while the Lancers fell to 7-25 and 2-15. The two teams will meet up at Kincaid Field on Saturday in a noon game...[more]

04.15.09 - Big inning enough to hold off El Camino

George Sanchez pitched seven solid innings and struck out eight batters to help Cerritos hold off El Camino on Tuesday afternoon.Although there are still six more South Coast Conference games to be played, the Cerritos College baseball team approached their game at Kincaid Field on Wednesday against El Camino College as a must-win situation. The Falcons, in fourth place with a 10-7 SCC record entering the game, trailed the first place Warriors, who entered at 11-4. After an eight-run second inning helped them open a 12-0 lead, Cerritos went on to post a 14-7 victory. The win puts the Falcons at 11-7 in the SCC and 20-14 on the year, while El Camino is now 11-5 and 22-12-1. Cerritos will now travel to Jackie Robinson Field on Thursday for a 2:30 game against Pasadena City College

The Falcons strung together five straight hits in the second inning to help them toward their eight runs, while two Warrior errors assisted them along the way. Sophomore outfielder David Neff (John Glenn HS), freshman designated hitter Jacob Eaton (Calvary Chapel HS), sophomore catcher Paul Hayes (Bellflower HS), freshman first baseman Josh Bryan (La Mirada HS) and freshman outfielder Lemuel Johnson (Gahr HS) all had consecutive singles, which scored the first three runs of the inning. 04.09.09 - Cerritos splits four games over the break
During the Spring Break, the Cerritos College baseball team found themselves in several wild games. The Falcons, who split their four contests, opened with a 7-6 win that went 11 innings and then followed that by getting shellacked by Fresno City College, 22-6. The team rebounded with a 10-3 win over Allan Hancock College and then concluded with a football-like 21-20 loss at the hands of Cuesta College in 10 innings. Cerritos (19-14) now resumes South Coast Conference play with a critical 2:30 p.m. game at home on Wednesday against El Camino College...[more]

04.04.09 - Falcons shut out for the first time
The Cerritos College baseball team picked a bad time for their bats to go silent. With a chance to move another game close to leapfrogging over another team in the South Coast Conference, the Falcons were shut out by host El Camino College, 5-0 on Saturday. With the loss, Cerritos is now 10-7 in SCC play and 17-12 overall, while the second place Warriors are now 11-4 and 21-8-1. The Falcons will now play four non-conference road games over Spring Break and open at Oxnard College at 2:00 p.m. on Monday in a rain make-up game from earlier in the season...[more]

Freshman starting pitcher Chris Villalobos (El Rancho HS) received 11 runs of support to compliment his four-hit, complete game performance to lead the Cerritos College baseball team to an 11-1 South Coast Conference win at Mt. San Antonio College Thursday evening. The win was the second in a row for the Falcons over Mounties, who moved into third place in the tight conference. Cerritos is now 17-11 overall and 10-6 in the SCC, while Mt. SAC dropped to 18-12 and 8-6. The team will now travel to El Camino College at noon in another conference game. The Warriors are currently in second place with a 10-4 SCC record...[more]

03.31.09 - Falcons work out of trouble in 5-3 win

SAC 5-3.Faced with several bases loaded situations in their South Coast Conference baseball game against Mt. San Antonio College at Kincaid Field on Tuesday afternoon, Cerritos College was up to the challenge each time. The Falcons, who won the game 5-3, saw the Mounties leave the bases loaded in the sixth inning, while a great throw by sophomore outfielder David Neff (John Glenn HS) ended a threat in the eighth inning. The victory improves the Falcons record to 16-11 overall and 9-6 in SCC play, while Mt. SAC dropped to 18-11 and 8-5. The two will meet up on Thursday in a 6:00 p.m. game at Mt. San Antonio.

Leading 5-3 in the top of the sixth inning, freshman pitcher Skye Severns (Claremont HS) walked two and allowed a single to load the bases before he got J.C. Torres to fly out to end the threat. In the eighth inning, sophomore relief pitcher Steven Blanchette (Schurr HS) allowed a pair of walks before he was replaced by sophomore George Sanchez (Gahr HS), who walked the first batter he faced. But on a fly out by Jon Peters, Neff threw a strike to sophomore catcher Paul Hayes (Bellflower HS), who tagged Michael Newell out attempting to score from third base...[more]

03.28.09 - Triples lead the way in Cerritos victory

Cerritos used three triples to defeat East LA College 7-6 on Saturday afternoon.As the architect of the field named in his honor, Cerritos College assistant baseball coach Wally Kincaid is getting a first-hand look at the purpose for his vision. The Falcons, looking to get back into the hunt for the South Coast Conference title, recorded three triples hit into the cavernous outfield gaps, including a one-out three-base hit by sophomore third baseman Brian Gaylord (La Mirada HS) in the bottom of the ninth inning. Freshman designated hitter Joe Terry (Long Beach Poly HS), who tripled his first two times up, singled home Gaylord for the game-winning run in a 7-6 Falcon win over East Los Angeles College on Saturday afternoon at Kincaid Field.

    With the win, Cerritos is now 8-6 in conference action and 15-11 overall, while the Huskies dropped to 7-7 and 12-16. The Falcons will now host Mt. San Antonio College at 2:30 p.m. in another SCC contest. The Mounties, who entered the day at 7-4, are one game against of Cerritos in the standings...[more]

03.25.09 - Falcons let early lead get away
The Cerritos College baseball team was looking to get themselves back into the race for first place in the South Coast Conference when they faced East Los Angeles College on Wednesday at Cal State Los Angeles. The Falcons entered the day two games behind conference-leading Long Beach City College, who has a 9-3 record. After dropped a 12-6 decision to the Huskies, Cerritos continues to sit with the rest of the pack with their 7-6 SCC record, while they fell to 14-11 overall. The team will now host East LA at noon on Saturday...[more]

03.24.09 - Cerritos wins another wild game
For a program that has been known for its pitching and defense, the Cerritos College baseball team has found itself in more wild games that anyone can recall. In the last two weeks, the Falcons have turned in 11-10, 18-16 and on Tuesday, a 17-15 win. Cerritos, who trailed 10-2 after three innings against Los Angeles Harbor, rebounded to post their 17-15 South Coast Conference victory to improve to 14-10 on the year and 7-5 in SCC play. The team will now travel to Cal State Los Angeles for a 2:30 p.m. conference game against East Los Angeles College on Wednesday...[more]

03.21.09 - Villalobos tosses four-hit shutout

Chris Villalobos tossed a four-hit shutout to defeat LA Harbor 6-0.Cerritos College freshman pitcher Chris Villalobos (El Rancho HS) needed just 96 pitches to throw a 6-0 complete game shutout victory over Los Angeles Harbor College in a South Coast Conference game at Kincaid Field on Saturday afternoon. The win snapped the team's two game losing streak and improved their record to 13-10 overall and 6-5 in SCC play, while the Seahawks are now 13-10 and 7-4. The Falcons will now close out their series against LA Harbor on Tuesday with a 2:30 p.m. game in Wilmington.

For Villalobos (6-2), he was staked a 2-0 lead in the first inning and never looked back, as he limited the Seahawks to four harmless singles, while he struck out four and walked just one. In addition to his effective pitching, Villalobos also fielded his position superbly, handling all five comebackers on the day...[more]

03.19.09 - Falcons swept by Compton for the first time
In all three of their meetings with ECC Compton Center this season, the Cerritos College baseball team dug themselves a hole they just couldn't crawl out of. On Thursday, the Tartars opened up a 4-0 lead after the first two innings and posted a 7-4 South Coast  Conference win over the Falcons. The loss drops Cerritos to 12-10 overall and 5-5 in SCC play, while Compton improved to 10-12 and 6-4. The team will look to snap out of their slump on Saturday when they host Los Angeles Harbor College at noon...[more]

03.17.09 - Miscues lead to 8-3 defeat

Cerritos' three game winning streak was snapped by Compton College on Tuesday afternoon.In the first 95 meetings between the Cerritos College and Compton College baseball teams, the Falcons came out on top 89 times, including the last 18 times heading into the 2009 season. So far this year, the Tartars have defeated the Falcons 17-3 in their first meeting and followed that with an 8-3 South Coast Conference victory at Kincaid Field on Tuesday afternoon. The loss also snaps a three-game winning streak for Cerritos, who drops to 12-9 on the year and 5-4 in SCC play, while Compton improves to 9-12 and 5-4. The team will close out their series on Thursday in a 2:30 p.m. game at Compton.

Compton opened up a 5-0 lead through the first four innings off sophomore starting pitcher George Sanchez (Gahr HS), who saw his record fall to 4-2. Of the five runs the Tartars scored off Sanchez, two of them were courtesy of Cerritos errors, including one by Sanchez, whose failed pickoff attempt put two runners in scoring position in the fourth. Ricardo Vazquez responded with a two-run single with two outs...[more]

03.14.09 - Falcons come back to win after losing lead
The Cerritos College baseball team was looking at the positive side of a 5-0 score against Los Angeles City College in a South Coast Conference game on Saturday afternoon at Griffith Park. But just as they were settling in for the win, the Cubs exploded for seven runs in the bottom of the sixth inning and the Falcons were left scrambling to come up with enough runs to win the game. The Cerritos offense responded with three runs in the top of the eighth inning for an 8-7 victory. The Falcons (12-8 overall, 5-3 SCC) will now host the same Cubs at 2:30 p.m. on Tuesday at Kincaid Field...[more]

03.12.09 - Cerritos scores big win over LB City
Photo by Juan Velez. Baseball scored a big win over LB City.Usually when a team allows 10 runs in an inning, it's almost assumed that the team has gotten beat pretty bad. That wasn't the case for the Cerritos College baseball in Thursday's South Coast Conference game against Long Beach City College at Kincaid Field. As it turned out, both teams had 10-run innings, with the Falcons prevailing, 18-16 in which the two teams scored the second most combined runs in a game on Cerritos history. The record of 36 runs was scored in a 26-10 win over Glendale in 1958 and in a 25-11 Cerritos win over College of the Canyons in 1989. The Falcons (11-8 overall, 4-3 SCC) will now travel to Griffith Park to face Los Angeles City College in an SCC game on Saturday.

Trailing 5-2 heading into the bottom of the fifth inning, Cerritos put a 10-spot on the board, as sophomore outfielder David Neff (John Glenn HS) drilled a bases loaded triple to round out the scoring in the stanza. Along the way, freshman outfielder Jake Mayoral (Rocklin HS) and sophomore second baseman Brandon Pesante (La Mirada HS) each had two-run extra-base hits...[more]

03.10.09 - Ninth-inning run wins game for Falcons

Baseball used a ninth inning run to secure a 11-10 victory over Chaffey College on Tuesday.Sophomore infielder Brian Gaylord (La Mirada HS) drove in sophomore second baseman Brandon Pesante (La Mirada HS) with a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the ninth inning to give the Cerritos College baseball team an 11-10 non-conference win over Chaffey College at Kincaid Field on Tuesday afternoon. The win snapped a two-game losing streak for the Falcons, who are now 10-8 on the year, while the Panthers dropped to 11-7. Cerritos will resume South Coast Conference play on Thursday when they face Long Beach City College at 2:30 p.m. at Kincaid Field.

In the bottom of the ninth, Pesante drew a lead-of walk and stole second base, the eighth steal of the game for the Falcons. After an out was recorded, freshman outfielder Jake Mayoral (Rocklin HS) grounded a ball to Chaffey third baseman Willie Holmes, who threw the ball over first baseman Greg Allen's head, putting runners at second and third. Freshman shortstop Max McEleney (Long Beach Millikan HS) was walked intentionally to load the bases for Gaylord. Cerritos Baseball was not able to maintain a 4-3 lead in the 8th inning over Pasadena City on Saturday night.Cerritos College sophomore relief pitcher Steven Blanchette (Schurr HS) was one strike away from helping his team maintain a 4-3 South Coast Conference lead in the top of the eighth inning on Saturday afternoon at Kincaid Field. After Pasadena City College shortstop Even Bloem fouled off two pitches with a 1-2 count, he singled sharply up the middle to score Enrique Reynoso from third base. The Lancers would go on to score two more runs in the inning and posted a 6-4 win over the Falcons. The loss was the second in a row for Cerritos (9-8 overall, 3-3 SCC), while Pasadena City (5-9, 2-3) won their third straight. The Falcons will now host Chaffey College in a non-conference game at 2:00 p.m. at Kincaid Field on Tuesday.

    In the top of the eighth, Reynoso sent a tailing fly ball that Cerritos left-fielder David Neff (John Glenn HS) decided to dive after. But the ball skipped all the way to the wall and Reynoso had himself a stand-up triple. After Blanchette (0-2) struck out Brian Smith, Bloem battled for his game-tying base hit. Justin Soto followed with a single to right field that freshman Joe Terry (Long Beach Poly HS) booted, allowing Soto to advance to second base. Cerritos was overmatched by El Camino on Friday afternoon resulting in a 12-1 defeat.The Cerritos College baseball team found themselves overmatched by El Camino College pitcher Kyle Petter on Friday afternoon in a South Coast Conference baseball game that was originally scheduled for Thursday afternoon. After scoring the game's opening run, the Falcons allowed 12 unanswered runs, while Petter struck out 13 batters, and Cerritos suffered a 12-1 defeat. The loss dropped the Falcons to 9-7 overall and 3-2 in SCC play, while the Warriors improved to 12-6-1 overall and 2-2 in the SCC. Cerritos will get a chance to rebound when they host Pasadena City College at noon on Saturday.

Baseball scored a run in the 8th inning to secure a win against East LA.Sophomore third baseman Brian Gaylord (La Mirada HS) doubled home freshman shortstop Max McEleney (Long Beach Wilson HS) from second base with one out in the bottom of the eighth inning to break a 4-4 tie and give the Cerritos College baseball team a 5-4 South Coast Conference home win over East Los Angeles College on Saturday afternoon. The win improves the Falcons record to 8-6 overall and 2-1 in SCC play, while the Huskies dropped to 6-11 and 1-2. Cerritos will now travel to Mt. 02.18.09 - Falcons drop 11-1 game to Palomar
Photo by Juan Velez.  Cerritos Baseball dropped a 11-1 decision to Palomar on Wednesday.Sometimes a rainout isn't the worst thing that could happen. With wet conditions preventing Cerritos College from travelling to Palomar College on Wednesday for a nonconference baseball game, both teams agreed to move the game to Kincaid Field. The Comets played as though they had home-field advantage, as they sprayed the ball all over the field en route to an 11-1 win. The loss dropped Cerritos to 5-4 on the year, while Palomar improved to 9-4-1. The Falcons will now travel down to San Diego Mesa College for a 2:00 p.m. nonconference game on Thursday.

From the outset, Palomar had their bats going and led 10-0 after four innings with four of their 10 hits going for doubles into the cavernous gaps in the Cerritos outfield. A pair of Falcon errors helped the Comets along, as four of the runs were unearned. 02.17.09 - Wet field postpones game; location change
Due to wet conditions, the Cerritos College baseball game that was scheduled for Tuesday, February 17 at Fullerton College has been postponed. The game will be made up on a Sunday during conference play at Fullerton College at a date to be determined later. It has also been announced that Wednesday's non-conference game that was scheduled to be played at Palomar College at 2:00 p.m. will now be played at Kincaid Field.

02.15.09 - Falcons break out for 7-2 win

George Sanchez pitched eight solid innings recording his second win of the season.Trailing 1-0 heading into the bottom of the fifth inning, the Cerritos College baseball team scored six times en route to a 7-2 non-conference win over Saddleback College at Kincaid Field on Sunday afternoon. The win snaps a two-game losing skid, as the Falcons improved to 5-3 on the year, while the Gauchos dropped to 6-6. Cerritos will now play their next six games on the road, starting on Tuesday with a 2:00 p.m. nonconference game at Fullerton College.

    Sophomore starting pitcher George Sanchez (Gahr HS) pitched eight solid innings to pick up his second win of the season against no losses, as he surrendered five hits and an unearned run in the fourth inning. 02.14.09 - Cerritos loses second in a row

They look to bounce back on Sunday against Saddleback.The Golden West College baseball team pounded out 17 hits on Saturday afternoon, as they registered a 12-3 non-conference win at Cerritos College, which drops the Falcons record to 4-3 on the season. Cerritos will look to break out of their two-game losing slump when they host Saddleback College at 1:00 p.m. on Sunday in a make-up game that was rained out on Friday.

Although the Falcons lost the lop-sided game, they did have their chances until the Rustlers broke the game open. Trailing 7-1 in the bottom of the seventh inning, Cerritos loaded the bases on a walk and two singles. Sophomore second baseman Brandon Pesante (La Mirada HS) was then hit by a pitch from winning pitcher Keith Schwecke to score a run. 02.12.09 - Baseball defeated by Irvine Valley, 9-5
The Cerritos College baseball team has had to deal with a nine-day layoff due to bad weather, and it may have affected them in their first game back. The Falcons (4-2) were defeated by Irvine Valley College, 9-5 although the team held a 3-1 lead heading into the bottom of the fourth inning. Cerritos will now try to get a couple of home games in before another storm makes its way through Southern California. 02.07.09 - More bad weather cancels make-up game
The heavy rains that Southern California has experienced has saturated Kincaid Field to the point where the make-up game between Cerritos College and Oxnard College has been postponed for a second time. The game was originally scheduled to be played on Thursday, February 5, while the make-up game was slated for Sunday, February 8. The game will be made up on Sunday, April 16 at 1:00 p.m. at Cerritos.

02.01.09 - Falcons pull away for 7-3 win

George Sanchez had a solid performance in his second outing of the season to help the Falcons defeat College of the Canyons 7-3.After a slow first inning, where the Cerritos College defense committed two errors and allowed one unearned run, they settled down to record a 7-3 non-conference baseball win at home against College of the Canyons on Sunday afternoon. The Falcons (3-1) will now travel to Chaffey College on Tuesday for a 2:00 p.m. non-conference game.

Cerritos took the lead for good in the bottom of the third inning with three runs, while sophomore pitcher George Sanchez (Gahr HS) limited the Cougars to just two runs (one earned) in seven innings of work. In the third inning, freshman outfielder Lemuel Johnson (Gahr HS) was hit by a pitch to lead off the inning, while freshman outfielder Jay Mayoral (Rocklin HS) laid down a bunt to move Johnson over. But Cougars pitcher Ronnie Mousselli couldn't field the ball, the Falcons had two runners on with no outs. Sophomore catcher Paul Hayes (Bellflower HS) followed with an RBI single to left, while freshman designated hitter Joe Terry (Long Beach Poly HS) slapped a single to right, which scored the second run. 01.31.09 - Free passes lead to 15-7 victory

Cerritos received free passes during Saturday's gave vs Rio Hondo College resulting in a 15-7 victory.It looked as though the Cerritos College baseball team was about to suffer their second loss in a row, as they trailed visiting Rio Hondo College, 7-2 after five innings. The pitching had already surrendered six hits, two hit batters, two errors and a walk. But as soon as the Falcon batters started receiving free passes from the Roadrunner pitchers, the game took a different turn. By the end of the game, Cerritos had scored 13 unanswered runs and recorded a 15-7 win, in a game the team had received 14 walks and slapped out just nine hits, while nine of the walks turned into runs. The Falcons (2-1) will now host College of the Canyons at 11:00 a.m. on Sunday.

Freshman pitcher Skye Severns (Claremont HS) showed that he had good stuff, but the Rio Hondo batters were waiting for their pitches and scored two unearned runs in the second and added five more runs (two unearned) by the time he was taken out after four innings. Unlike the day before when the bullpen struggled to keep the team in the game, the duo of freshmen Efren Gutierrez (Gahr HS) and Chris Villalobos (El Rancho HS) allowed just five hits over the final five innings and completely shut down Rio Hondo. 01.30.09 - Sloppy pitching results in 12-6 loss

Cerritos College baseball pitching was not able to hold up a 6-2 lead Friday afternoon resulting in a 12-6 loss.Throughout a long baseball season, there are occasions when the pitching fails and the team relies on the offense to win the game. For the Cerritos College baseball team, they had their bats going early on and led Glendale College, 6-2 through the first three innings of a non-conference game at Kincaid Field on Friday afternoon. However, the pitching just wasn't able to hold up and nine walks, along with six hit batters led to a 12-6 loss that was ended after seven innings due to darkness. The Falcons (1-1) will now host Rio Hondo College at noon on Saturday.

In taking that lead, Cerritos scored twice in the second inning and four more in the third. Sophomore designated hitter George Sanchez (Gahr HS) drilled a one-out double deep into the left-center field gap and eventually came home on a throwing error by Vaquero shortstop Danny Casey. On the play, freshman catcher David Neff (John Glenn HS) reached first base on an infield hit. But Casey tried to catch Neff taking a big turn and threw the ball away, which allowed Sanchez to score. The Cerritos College baseball team took advantage of two Golden West College errors to score six times in the top of the fifth inning in their season-opener on Tuesday. The Falcons rode those runs to a 6-3 non-conference victory, as the team received solid pitching and hitting on the day. 06.06.08 - Miguel Flores drafted by St. Louis Cardinals
Cerritos College sophomore right-handed pitcher Miguel Flores (St. John Bosco HS), who went 7-2 with three saves on the year with a team-leading 2.07 ERA, was the 485th overall pick in the Major League Baseball Draft, as he was selected by the St. Louis Cardinals in the 16th Round. Flores, who also led the team with 121 strikeouts in 113 innings, was a two-time 1st Team All-South Coast Conference selection. As a freshman, Flores garnered All-Southern California honors after going 5-3 with nine saves and a 1.63 ERA. He also struck out 37 batters in 43 2/3 innings...[more]
