Sophomore pitcher
Sheldon
McGregor (La Mirada HS) scattered
just two hits and faced two batters over the minimum
in his eight innings of work to lead the Cerritos
College baseball team to a 7-0 South Coast
Conference win at East Los Angeles College on
Thursday afternoon. With the win, the Falcons remain
in second place behind Long Beach City College with
a 15-5 mark, while they are now 26-13 on the year.
The Huskies dropped to 10-12 in the SCC and 19-22-1
overall. Cerritos has just four regular season games
remaining and will travel to third place Los Angeles
Harbor on Saturday for a 12:00 p.m. contest.
McGregor allowed a single
in the fourth inning and had a runner reach base on
an error in the fifth inning, but both were cut down
with a double play. In the seventh inning, he
allowed a single and hit a batter before retiring
the Huskies with runners on first and third. He
struck out four on the day and did not allow a walk.
Sophomore
Brad Schwarzenbach (St. John Bosco HS)
pitched the ninth inning and struck out three
batters, while one of the strikeouts reached base on
a wild pitch.
At the plate, the Falcons
took advantage of three Huskies errors, which
resulted in three unearned runs. In the second
inning, sophomore shortstop
Scott
Patynik (Whittier HS) singled and was
moved to second base on a sacrifice bunt by
sophomore first baseman
Ryan
Montgomery (La Mirada HS). Freshman
left fielder
Andrew
Baslow (Chatsworth HS) then singled
and moved to second base on an error. That set up a
sacrifice fly by sophomore designated hitter
Ryan
Bateman (Santa Fe HS) before another
error on a ball hit by freshman right fielder
Jake Moore
(Palisade, CO HS) allowed Baslow to score.
Cerritos scored another
run in the third when sophomore second baseman
Dan Luyben
(Lakewood HS) tripled and scored on a
sacrifice fly by sophomore center fielder
Phil
Van Doren (La Mirada HS). In the
fifth inning, freshman third baseman
Jose
Serrano (Artesia HS) singled home a
run and eventually scored on an error, while Luyben
closed out the scoring in the ninth with a bases
loaded singled that scored two runs.
On the day, Luyben went
3-for-5 with two RBI, while Serrano had two hits. |
