Palomar College scored
three runs in the bottom of the ninth inning on
Wednesday afternoon to post a 6-5 non-conference
baseball win against Cerritos College. Leading 5-3
heading into the bottom of the ninth inning, the
Falcons watched the Comets win the game on a
three-run home run off the bat of Tyler Perkins.
Sophomore closer
Brad Schwarzenbach (St. John Bosco HS)
got out of a jam in the bottom of the eighth inning,
but allowed a base hit and a walk before Perkins won
the game with his walk-off home run. It was the
second game in a row that Cerritos lost after taking
a lead late into the game.
Cerritos (1-2) will look
to even their record on Thursday when they face
Ventura College at 2:00 p.m. in a game that will be
played at Palomar College.
With the score tied, 3-3
heading into the top of the seventh inning, the
Falcons picked up two runs to take the lead. With
one out, sophomore second baseman
Dan Luyben
(Lakewood HS) walked, followed by
Schwarzenbach getting hit by a pitch. The bases were
loaded after freshman catcher
Phil
Rodriguez (Norwalk HS) drew a walk.
Sophomore first baseman
Ryan
Montgomery (La Mirada HS) then drew a
full count walk to bring home a run before freshman
right fielder
Jake Moore
(Palisade, CO HS) singled in a run.
Each time the Falcons
scored, the Comets came right back to tie the game.
Cerritos picked up two runs in the top of the fifth
inning on a sacrifice fly ball from sophomore center
fielder
Phil
Van Doren (La Mirada HS) and an RBI
single from Luyben. After Palomar tied the game in
the bottom of the inning, the Falcons picked up a
run in the sixth inning when freshman third baseman
Jose
Serrano (Artesia HS) drove in
Rodriguez, who opened the inning with a base hit.
Sophomore starting
pitcher
Sheldon
McGregor (La Mirada HS) had another
quality start, going seven innings and allowed three
runs and eight hits before sophomore
Don
Bodewig (Brea Olinda HS) came on in
relief and pitched 2/3 of an inning.
Rodriguez finished the
game going 3-for-4 with a walk and run scored, while
