The Cerritos College
baseball team slapped out 14 hits, and used a
six-run second inning to help them post a 12-5
non-conference win over Victory Valley College on
Friday afternoon at Kincaid Field. With the win, the
Falcons improved to 3-5 on the season, while the
Rams dropped to 2-6. Cerritos will now host Los
Angeles Valley College on Saturday at 10:00 a.m. in
the second of four games in the Casey Stengel
Invitational.
The Falcons strung
together six hits in seven at-bats in the second
inning, with sophomore shortstop
Scott
Patynik (Whittier HS) and sophomore
center fielder
Phil
Van Doren (La Mirada HS) each
recording two-run hits. Sophomore right fielder
Ryan
Montgomery (La Mirada HS) added an
RBI double, with freshman third baseman
Jose
Serrano (Artesia HS) and freshman
first baseman
Phil
Rodriguez (Norwalk HS) each drove in
runs in the inning.
The lead was enough
offense for sophomore right-handed pitcher
Sheldon
McGregor (La Mirada HS), who
collected his second win of the season after
pitching seven inning and allowing four runs on 10
hits. He also struck out seven batters on the day.
Van Doren finished the
day by going 4-for-6 at the plate and drove in three
runs, with three other players recording two hits in
the win. Patynik was 2-for-4 with a hit by pitch and
scored twice, while sophomore second baseman
Dan Luyben
(Lakewood HS) was 2-for-2 and walked in his
three other plate appearances and scored two runs.
Serrano was 2-for-4 with a walk and hit by pitch and
added two RBI and scored twice.
The 12 runs and 14 hits
were the most on the year by the Falcons. |
