Freshman right fielder
Jake Moore
(Palisade (CO) HS) scored on a passed ball in
the top of the ninth inning for the eventual winning
run, as the Cerritos College baseball team posted a
4-3 non-conference win at Fullerton College on
Saturday. With the victory, the Falcons evened their
record at 6-6 and will now travel to Irvine Valley
College on Tuesday for a 2:00 p.m. contest.
With the score tied 3-3
heading into the top of the ninth inning, Moore led
off with a base hit and moved to second on a
sacrifice bunt by sophomore shortstop
Scott
Patynik (Whittier HS). After a deep
fly ball to right by freshman center fielder Nick
Armstrong (Marina HS), Moore scampered
home when a pitch by Hornet reliever Blake Parry got
past catcher Matt Silvernale.
Sophomore starting
pitcher
Phil
Van Doren (La Mirada HS) was staked
to a 3-0 lead after five innings, but Fullerton
picked up a single run in the sixth inning and tied
the game on a two-run home run by Lance Abbott with
two outs in the seventh inning. Van Doren was
removed with one out in the eighth inning by
freshman
Kevin
Camacho (Santa Fe HS), who earned his
first win by recording the final five outs.
Cerritos took an early
1-0 lead in the top of the first inning after
sophomore second baseman
Dan Luyben
(Lakewood HS) doubled with two outs and came
home on a base hit by freshman designated hitter
Phil
Rodriguez (Norwalk HS). They expanded
their lead to 3-0 in the top of the fourth inning
after sophomore first baseman
Ryan
Montgomery (La Mirada HS) led off the
inning by reaching first base after the third strike
got away from the catcher. After a single by Moore
and a double steal, the bases were loaded when
Armstrong drew a walk. The first run came home on a
fielder’s choice off the bat of freshman left
fielder
Andrew
Baslow (Chatsworth HS), while the
second came courtesy of a passed ball.
On the day, Moore went
2-for-3 with two runs scored and a hit by pitch,
while sophomore catcher
Brad Schwarzenbach (St. John Bosco HS)
singled and was hit by two pitches. |
