Sophomore pitcher
Sheldon
McGregor (La Mirada HS) allowed two
runs (one earned) and seven hits in eight innings of
work to earn his fourth win of the season, as the
Cerritos College baseball team recorded a 6-2
non-conference win at Irvine Valley College on
Tuesday afternoon. With the win, the Falcons are now
7-6 on the season and will now host Golden West
College on Wednesday at 2:00 p.m.
With the score tied 1-1,
Cerritos picked up a single run in the fifth inning
and pulled away with three more in the top of the
sixth inning, to keep McGregor’s record perfect at
4-0. The Falcons took advantage of five Laser
errors, which accounted for five of their runs in
the game. In the fifth inning, sophomore shortstop
Scott
Patynik (Whittier HS) walked and
stole a base with one out. He then came home on a
base hit by freshman left fielder
Andrew
Baslow (Chatsworth HS), who took
second base on an error by the Irvine Valley center
fielder.
In the sixth inning,
sophomore catcher
Brad Schwarzenbach (St. John Bosco HS)
singled and advanced to second base on an error on a
ball hit by freshman designated hitter
Jake Moore
(Palisade, CO HS). Sophomore first baseman
Ryan
Montgomery (La Mirada HS) walked to
load the bases before Patynik drove in a run with a
walk. The Falcons picked up their second run on a
fielder’s choice by freshman center fielder Nick
Armstrong (Marina HS), before Baslow
closed out the scoring with a single.
On the day, Baslow
(2-for-5, 2 RBI) and Schwarzenbach (2-for-5) each
had two hits, while Patynik drove in two runs and
walked three times. The Falcons collected nine walks
on the day, as Montgomery also drew three passes. |
