With approximately 25
scouts in attendance to watch Golden West starting
pitcher Adam Barragar, Cerritos College freshman
pitcher
Kevin
Camacho (Santa Fe HS) left the scouts
with a good impression with his strong performance.
Camacho pitched eight innings, allowing just one run
and three hits to earn his second win of the season,
as the Falcons posted an 8-1 non-conference win.
Camacho kept Golden West (11-5) hitless through the
first five innings, and finished the day with six
strikeouts. Cerritos (8-6) will now travel to Mt.
San Jacinto College on Friday for a 2:00 p.m.
contest.
The game was the third
time these teams had met in the last 10 days, with
Cerritos winning two of the three contests. Back on
February 12, Golden West posted a 10-1 win, while
the Falcons came back with a 14-5 decision three
days later.
The Falcons took
advantage of some wildness by Barragar, as they
scored three runs in the bottom of the second
inning, thanks in part to two errors by the pitcher
and two wild pitches with runners at third base.
After sophomore second baseman
Dan Luyben
(Lakewood HS) led off with a base hit, he
reached second base when Jake Moore’s bunt to
Barragar pulled first baseman Garrett Boyd off the
bag. The very next batter, sophomore first baseman
Ryan Montgomery (La Mirada HS) bunted
back to Barragar, who mishandled the ball, which
loaded the bases for the Falcons.
In the span of the next
four pitches, Barragar threw two wild pitches, which
allowed both runners to score. Montgomery worked his
way around the bases on the wild pitches and then
came home on an RBI single by sophomore shortstop
Scott
Patynik (Whittier HS).
Cerritos scored a single
run in the seventh inning after freshman center
fielder Nick Armstrong (Marina HS)
stretched a single into a double, moved to third in
a ground out by freshman left fielder
Andrew
Baslow (Chatsworth HS) and scored in
a single by freshman third baseman
Jose
Serrano (Artesia HS).
All the while, Camacho
was shutting down the Rustlers and only experienced
trouble in the sixth inning. After a lead-off single
by Josh Potter and a ground out, Camacho was called
for a balk. A ground out by Johnny Jimenez scored
the game’s only run for Golden West.
The Falcons put the game
out of reach in the eighth inning, as they scored
four runs on four hits with Patynik coming up with a
two-run double. Baslow and sophomore right fielder
Phil
Van Doren (La Mirada HS) also drove
in runs in the inning.
On the day, Luyben went
3-for-4 with two runs, while Patynik (2-for-3, 3
RBI, walk), Armstrong (2-for-4, two runs) and Baslow
(2-for-4, RBI) each collected two hits. |
