The Cerritos College
baseball team spread out 13 hits, including a
two-run home run by sophomore first baseman
Ryan
Montgomery (La Mirada HS), his second
in as many games, to help lead the Falcons to an 8-2
South Coast Conference road win against Pasadena
City College on Thursday. With the win, their
seventh in the last eight games, Cerritos is now
11-7 overall and 2-0 in conference play. Weather
permitting, the team will travel to face cross-town
rival Long Beach City College on Saturday at noon.
Montgomery’s home run, a
two-run blast in the top of the third inning, gave
the Falcons a 4-0 lead for freshman starting pitcher
Kevin
Camacho (Santa Fe HS), who went 6 2/3
innings and allowed two runs while striking out
seven batters. In the second inning, Montgomery got
the inning started by being hit by a pitch. After
moving to second base on a wild pitch, he came home
on a double by freshman center fielder Nick
Armstrong (Marina HS). After he advanced
to third base on an error, Armstrong was driven home
on a sacrifice fly off the bat of freshman third
baseman
Jose
Serrano (Artesia HS).
That would be enough
offense for Camacho, who worked out of several jams
throughout the game. With runners on first and
second in the third inning, he recorded the final
out on a strikeout, while he worked out of a bases
loaded jam in the fifth inning after allowing two
hits and a walk.
In the fourth inning,
freshman left fielder
Andrew
Baslow (Chatsworth HS) doubled and
scoring on a base hit by Serrano, while sophomore
designated hitter
Phil
Van Doren (La Mirada HS) drove in two
runs with a two-out single in the eighth inning that
scored Armstrong and Baslow. Sophomore shortstop
Scott
Patynik (Whittier HS) drove in the
team’s final run with a sacrifice fly in the ninth
inning.
On the day, Baslow,
Serrano, Van Doren, Armstrong and freshman right
fielder
Jake Moore (Palisade, CO HS) all
collected two hits. After Camacho came out,
sophomore
Sheldon
McGregor (La Mirada HS) came on and
recorded the final seven outs of the game and struck
out two. |
