The Cerritos College
baseball team wasted no time in jumping out to an
early lead in their Sough Coast Conference game
against Los Angeles City College on Tuesday. By the
end of the third inning, the Falcons were on top,
12-1 and cruised to a 20-1 victory. With the win,
Cerritos is now 12-8 overall and 3-1 in the
conference, while the Cubs dropped to 2-9 overall
and 0-3 in the conference. The team will now travel
to El Camino College on Thursday for a 2:00 p.m.
contest.
Lost in all the offense
the team put on the board was a seven-inning,
nine-strikeout performance from sophomore
right-hander
Sheldon
McGregor (La Mirada HS). He allowed
seven hits and one run, but did not surrender a
walk, before freshmen
David
Gurbach (Aliso Niguel HS) and
Lalo
Ceniceros (El Rancho HS) pitched the
final two innings.
Several players had big
games for the Falcons, including freshman left
fielder
Andrew
Baslow (Chatsworth HS), who tied for
the second most runs scored in a game (5), while
going 4-for-5 at the plate with three RBI and a
walk. He shares the five-run game with 10 other
players. Seven of the nine starters had multiple-hit
games, with freshman third baseman
Jose
Serrano (Artesia HS) and freshman
catcher
Phil
Rodriguez (Norwalk HS) each recording
four hits in the win.
The Falcons scored four
runs in the bottom of the first inning, picked up
two more in the second and added six runs in the
third to account for the majority of their runs.
They picked up solo runs in the fifth and seventh
innings and closed out the scoring with six more
runs in the eighth inning on the strength of just
three hits, as four players were hit by pitches.
Serrano drove in four
runs on the day, while Rodriguez had three RBI, with
sophomore right fielder
Phil
Van Doren (La Mirada HS) having a
2-for-4 day with three RBI and two runs scored.
Freshman center fielder Nick Armstrong (Marina
HS) was 3-for-5 with three runs scored and a
two-run triple, while freshman designated hitter
Jake Moore
(Palisade, CO HS) was 2-for-4 with an RBI.
Also having a good day at the plate was sophomore
first baseman
Ryan
Montgomery (La Mirada HS), who was
2-for-4 with two RBI. |
