The Cerritos College
baseball team scored six runs in the top of the
first inning and rode that momentum to a 9-3 South
Coast Conference victory at East Los Angeles College
on Tuesday afternoon. With the win, the Falcons
remain in second place with a 5-1 SCC mark, while
they are now 14-8 on the year. Cerritos will host
Los Angeles Harbor College on Thursday at 2:00 p.m.
In the first inning,
Cerritos scored their six runs on only four hits, as
they drew four walks against two pitchers. The big
hits were two-run singles by sophomore catcher
Brad Schwarzenbach (St. John Bosco HS)
and sophomore shortstop
Scott
Patynik (Whittier HS), who each had
three hits on the day. Sophomore first baseman
Ryan
Montgomery (La Mirada HS) and
freshman left fielder
Andrew
Baslow (Chatsworth HS) also collected
RBI’s in the inning.
Freshman starting pitcher
Kevin
Camacho (Santa Fe HS) went 5 2/3
innings to earn his fourth win of the season, while
sophomore
Don
Bodewig (Brea Olinda HS) pitched the
final 3 1/3 innings to pick up his first save on the
year. Camacho allowed three hits and one unearned
run, while Bodewig surrendered four hits and allowed
the other two runs in the bottom of the ninth
inning.
On the day, Schwarzenbach
drove in three runs, while sophomore right fielder
Phil
Van Doren (La Mirada HS) and
sophomore second baseman
Dan Luyben
(Lakewood HS) each had two hits, while
Montgomery scored three times. |
