At the annual coaches meeting at
the end of the season, the coaches from the South
Coast Conference selected their All-Conference teams
and the Cerritos Falcons had two players earn 1st
Team honors, while three others were selected 2nd
Team and Honorable Mention. The Falcons, who were
eliminated from the playoffs after a 4-3 loss to
Orange Coast College, tied for second place in the
conference and concluded the season with a 27-17
record.
Freshman pitcher
Kevin
Camacho
(Santa
Fe HS)
and sophomore outfielder/pitcher
Phil
Van Doren
(La
Mirada HS)
were named to the 1st Team. Camacho shared the team
lead in wins (9) and finished the season 9-5 in 97
2/3 innings of work, which was the second most on
the team and started 13 of the 18 games he appeared.
Camacho allowed only 79 hits in his time on the
mound and struck out 57, while opposing batters his
just .226 off him. As for Van Doren, he led the team
with a .337 batting average and also drove in a
team-high 31 runs while stealing nine of 10 bases.
He was solid defensively, as he committed just two
errors and had a .981 fielding percentage. On the
mound, he went 4-3 with a 2.65 ERA, which included a
complete-game one-hitter against Palomar College. He
appeared in 54 1/3 innings and started eight of the
11 games in which he appeared and also saved one
game.

HS).
McGregor posted a 9-1 record on the year with a 2.81
ERA in a team-high 99 1/3 innings and included a
team-high 67 strikeouts. He tied for the team lead
in starts (13) and appearances (19), while he also
saved two games. As for Luyben, he batted .299 on
the year with a team-high 11 doubles and drove in 17
runs. He was also second on the team with 21 walks
and a .402 slugging percentage, while he stole nine
bases. Serrano was solid in the hot corner and came
up with some dazzling plays over the course of the
season. He batted .256 and was third on the team
with 29 RBI and also drew 21 walks and was hit by 13
pitches. Serrano also led the team with 17 stolen
bases.

Brad Schwarzenbach

John Bosco HS)
and freshman left fielder
Andrew
Baslow
(Chatsworth
HS).
Patynik was second on the team with a .336 batting
average and added 30 RBI, nine doubles, 18 walks and
stole six bases. The hard-throwing Schwarzenbach was
the team's closer and went 2-5 on the mound with
four saves and a 1.84 ERA. He appeared in 15 games
and even started three times, while he struck out 41
batters in 44 innings of work. At the plate,
Schwarzenbach batted .263 with 13 RBI. Baslow hit
.282 with 14 stolen bases and spent most of the
season the the lead-off hitter. He scored a
team-high 34 runs and drove in 21 runs, while he led
the team with 24 walks. |
